VALID 12Z FRI DEC 08 2023 - 12Z SUN DEC 10 2023

...UNSETTLED WEATHER WITH EXCESSIVE RAINFALL AND HEAVY SNOWFALL
IMPLICATIONS RETURN TO THE PACIFIC NORTHWEST THIS WEEKEND...

...SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS AND HEAVY RAINFALL SPREAD FROM GULF COAST
TO EAST COAST THIS WEEKEND...

..WARM TEMPERATURES SHIFT FROM MISSISSIPPI VALLEY TO EAST COAST

LIGHT TO MODERATE SNOW IS EXPECTED OVER THE ROCKIES TODAY BENEATH
AN AREA OF LOW PRESSURE. A DEEP MID-LATITUDE CYCLONE WILL SPREAD
SNOW AND WIND ACROSS THE NORTHERN PLAINS TODAY BEFORE THE
SHORTWAVE ALOFT PHASES WITH A SOUTHERN STREAM TROUGH AND
RE-FOCUSES ACTIVITY OVER AREAS EAST OF THE GREAT PLAINS THIS
WEEKEND. THIS PHASING UPPER-LEVEL PATTERN WILL "OPEN UP" THE GULF
OF MEXICO BY DRAWING ANOMALOUS MOISTURE AND SPREADING IT OUT
ACROSS THE LOWER MISSISSIPPI VALLEY BEGINNING FRIDAY NIGHT.
SHOWERS AND THUNDERSTORMS ARE EXPECTED TO EXPAND UP INTO THE
MIDWEST ON SATURDAY. THERE'S CURRENTLY SLIGHT RISK OF SEVERE
THUNDERSTORMS FROM EAST TEXAS TO THE TENNESSEE VALLEY ON SATURDAY
AFTERNOON AND EVENING CARRYING THE THREAT OF TORNADOES, DAMAGING
WINDS AND LARGE HAIL.

THIS DEEPENING UPPER TROUGH WILL PROMOTE WARM SOUTHERLY FLOW INTO
THE EASTERN HALF OF THE COUNTRY OVER THE NEXT FEW DAYS. AS A
RESULT, TEMPERATURES ACROSS THE PLAINS AND MIDWEST WILL BE WELL
ABOVE AVERAGE TODAY AND SATURDAY BEFORE SHIFTING INTO THE EAST
COAST ON SUNDAY. CONVERSELY, HIGH PRESSURE WILL SETTLE IN OVER THE
WEST AND SUPPORT BELOW AVERAGE TEMPERATURES FOR MUCH OF THE
INTERMOUNTAIN WEST AND ROCKIES THIS WEEKEND.
