NWS WEATHER PREDICTION CENTER COLLEGE PARK MD
216 AM EST WED DEC 13 2023

VALID 12Z WED DEC 13 2023 - 12Z FRI DEC 15 2023

...MODERATE TO HEAVY SNOW AND BELOW AVERAGE TEMPERATURES LIKELY
OVER PORTIONS OF THE SOUTHERN ROCKIES/HIGH PLAINS THROUGH EARLY
FRIDAY MORNING...

...EXCESSIVE RAINFALL CONCERNS OVER SOUTHEASTERN FLORIDA FOR THE
NEXT FEW DAYS...

..NORTHERN TIER AND WEST WARM UP

A DIGGING UPPER LOW WILL BE RESPONSIBLE FOR THE WINTER STORM THAT
IMPACTS PORTIONS OF THE SOUTHERN ROCKIES/HIGH PLAINS BEGINNING
TODAY. MOISTURE ADVECTION INTO THE REGION FROM THE SOUTHEAST WILL
INTERACT WITH A WEAK SURFACE FRONT AS WELL AS THE TERRAIN OF
NORTHERN NEW MEXICO AND SOUTHERN COLORADO TO PRODUCE RAIN OVER THE
LOWER ELEVATIONS, A WINTRY MIX IN THE HIGHLANDS AND SNOW IN THE
MOUNTAINS. SNOW LEVELS REMAIN AN UNCERTAINTY WITH POTENTIAL FOR
ACCUMULATING SNOW AS LOW AS 5,500' AND AS HIGH AS 7,500'.
SIGNIFICANT RAINFALL AND SCATTERED THUNDERSTORMS ARE ALSO LIKELY
ACROSS EAST, CENTRAL AND SOUTHEAST NEW MEXICO. BELOW AVERAGE
TEMPERATURES ARE EXPECTED FROM SOUTHERN COLORADO TO WEST TEXAS
OVER THE NEXT COUPLE OF DAYS AS WELL.

A STATIONARY FRONT DRAPED ACROSS SOUTHERN FLORIDA WILL ACT AS A
FOCUS FOR MODERATE TO HEAVY RAINFALL AND THUNDERSTORMS THROUGH THE
WEEKEND. THERE'S A SLIGHT RISK (AT LEAST 15%) OF EXCESSIVE
RAINFALL FOR PORTIONS OF SOUTHEAST FLORIDA, SPECIFICALLY THE
GREATER MIAMI METRO AREA, WHERE HIGH RAIN RATES OVER THE URBAN
ENVIRONMENT MAY CAUSE FLASH FLOODING OVER THE NEXT COUPLE OF DAYS.
A PAIR OF UPPER-LEVEL RIDGES WILL SUPPORT ABOVE AVERAGE
TEMPERATURES ACROSS MUCH OF THE WEST, THE NORTHERN PLAINS, GREAT
LAKES AND MISSISSIPPI VALLEY BEGINNING TODAY.
