TROPICAL DISCUSSION - INTERNATIONAL DESKS
NWS WEATHER PREDICTION CENTER COLLEGE PARK MD
836 AM EDT MON APR 08 2024

PRELIMINARY DISCUSSION FOR PUERTO RICO AND THE USVI APR 08/12UTC:
A COLD FRONT TO THE NORTH OF THE LOCAL ISLANDS WILL SLOWLY MOVE
SOUTHEAST TODAY AND TUESDAY. THESE FRONTS WILL KEEP ABOVE NORMAL
MOISTURE OVER THE LOCAL ISLANDS THROUGH TUESDAY...AND PROMOTE
SHOWER ACTIVITY ACROSS MOST OF PR/USVI. THE LATEST HI-RES GUIDANCE
IS AGGRESSIVE WITH THE RAINFALL TOTALS TODAY...SUGGESTING OVER 1.5
INCHES OF RAIN ACROSS PORTIONS OF NORTHEASTERN...CENTRAL AND
SOUTHWESTERN PR. ADDITIONAL GENERALIZED RAIN IS EXPECTED ON
TUESDAY...THOUGH THE AMOUNTS ARE FORECAST TO BE LOWER...MAXING OUT
NEAR 0.75 TO 1 INCH ACROSS NORTHEASTERN AND SOUTHWESTERN PR. THE
USVI ARE FORECAST TO RECEIVE SOME RAIN TODAY AND TUESDAY AS
WELL...WITH TOTALS NEAR 0.10 TO 0.50 INCHES TODAY...THEN A FEW
HUNDREDTHS OF AN INCH ON TUESDAY. DRIER AIR WILL MOVE IN ON
WEDNESDAY...AND EVEN DRIER AIR WILL MOVE IN ON THURSDAY...BUT
MOISTURE WILL INCREASE ON FRIDAY. THE SHOWER ACTIVITY ACROSS THE
REGION WILL REFLECT THAT...AND THEREFORE THURSDAY IS FORECAST TO
BE THE DRIEST DAY THIS WEEK...THOUGH ISOLATED SHOWERS ARE STILL
FORECAST FOR EASTERN PR AND THE USVI.

ACROSS THE ATLANTIC...THERE IS A SFC LOW PRESSURE ACROSS THE
NORTHWESTERN ATLANTIC...WHICH IS ASSOCIATED WITH THE COLS FRONTS
IN THE AREA. AS THE WEEK PROGRESSES...THERE WILL BE A SFC HIGH
PRESSURE MOVING INTO THE SOUTHWESTERN ATLANTIC...WHICH MAY BE
CENTERED NEAR 30N/65W BY WEDNESDAY MORNING. THIS WILL HELP BRING
THE DRIER AIR FROM THE NORTH ON WEDNESDAY AND THURSDAY...BEHIND
THE COLD FRONT THAT WILL AFFECT THE LOCAL ISLANDS TODAY AND
TUESDAY. THE SFC HIGH PRESSURE WILL CONTINUE MOVING EAST THROUGH
THE REST OF THE WEEK. THE MID AND UPPER LEVELS WILL REMAIN STABLE
OVER THE LOCAL ISLANDS THIS WEEK. THERE IS AN UPPER TROUGH THAT
COULD DEVELOP BY MIDWEEK ONWARD...BUT THE AXIS WILL BE OVER THE
LEEWARD ISLANDS...CAUSING PR/USVI TO BE IN THE SUBSIDENT SIDE OF
THE TROUGH.

THE 5-DAY RAINFALL TOTAL FORECAST SUGGESTS OVER 3 INCHES OVER
NORTHEASTER PR. BETWEEN 2 AND 3 INCHES OF RAIN IS FORECAST FOR
CENTRAL TO SOUTHWESTERN PR. VIEQUES AND CULEBRA COULD OBSERVE NEAR
AN INCH OF RAIN...AND THE USVI ARE FORECAST BETWEEN 0.50 AND 0.75
INCHES.

ALAMO...WPC (USA)
