...SEVERE WEATHER AND HEAVY RAINFALL THREAT CONTINUES IN THE  
CENTRAL AND EASTERN U.S...  
   
..HAZARDOUS HEAT TO FOCUS OVER THE SOUTHERN AND EASTERN U.S  
 
DAILY CHANCES FOR SEVERE WEATHER AND HEAVY RAINFALL WILL CONTINUE  
INTO THE WEEKEND AS A FRONTAL SYSTEM PIVOTS ACROSS THE NATION'S  
MIDSECTION. THE MOST WIDESPREAD AND IMPACTFUL ROUND OF SEVERE  
WEATHER IS EXPECTED TO IMPACT PORTIONS OF THE MIDWEST (INCLUDING  
THE CHICAGO AND QUAD CITIES AREAS) THIS AFTERNOON, WHERE TORNADO  
AND FLOOD WATCHES ARE IN EFFECT AS THUNDERSTORMS RAPIDLY EXPAND IN  
COVERAGE AND INTENSITY OVER THE NEXT FEW HOURS. A SEPARATE (BUT  
LESS INTENSE) AREA OF SEVERE WEATHER IS ALSO POSSIBLE TODAY OVER  
PORTIONS OF THE OHIO VALLEY AND NORTHEAST THIS AFTERNOON AHEAD OF  
A WEAKENING LEAD COLD FRONT. BY TOMORROW AFTERNOON, STORMY SKIES  
WILL BE COMMONPLACE ACROSS MUCH OF THE NORTHEAST AND MID-ATLANTIC  
AS THE MAIN COLD FRONT APPROACHES FROM THE WEST, WHICH COULD  
PRODUCE SCATTERED SEVERE WIND GUSTS. EVENTUALLY, ORGANIZED  
THUNDERSTORMS CAPABLE OF BOTH SEVERE WEATHER AND EXCESSIVE  
RAINFALL WILL RE-FOCUS OVER THE CENTRAL PLAINS ON SATURDAY AS THE  
MAIN COLD FRONT STALLS AND BEGINS TO MEANDER NORTHWARD.  
 
THUNDERSTORMS ASIDE, HAZARDOUS HEAT REMAINS A CONCERN OVER THE  
SOUTHERN AND EASTERN U.S. OWING TO THE COMBINATION OF HIGH  
HUMIDITY, HOT DAYTIME TEMPERATURES, AND WARM OVERNIGHT  
TEMPERATUES. IN FACT, BY TOMORROW MANY DAILY HIGH TEMPERATURE  
RECORDS COULD FALL ALONG THE EASTERN SEABOARD FROM GEORGIA TO NEW  
YORK AS TEMPERATURES CLIMB TOWARDS TRIPLE DIGIT READINGS. AS SUCH,  
THE LATEST EXPERIMENTAL NWS HEATRISK OUTLOOK SUGGESTS MAJOR TO  
LOCALLY EXTREME HEAT IMPACTS ARE POSSIBLE THROUGH SATURDAY FROM  
THE LOWER MISSISSIPPI VALLEY TO THE NORTHEAST AS THE POTENT HEAT  
SETS IN.
