HAWAII EXTENDED FORECAST DISCUSSION
NWS WEATHER PREDICTION CENTER COLLEGE PARK MD
246 AM EST WED FEB 21 2024

VALID 00Z THU FEB 22 2024 - 00Z THU FEB 29 2024

TRADE WINDS ARE FORECAST TO GRADUALLY STRENGTHEN OVER THE NEXT
COUPLE OF DAYS AND VEER A BIT MORE SOUTHEASTERLY, IN RESPONSE TO A
SURFACE HIGH WELL NORTH OF HAWAII CONTRASTING WITH UPPER AND
SURFACE LOWS DEVELOPING WELL WEST OF THE ISLANDS AND CREATING A
STRONGER PRESSURE GRADIENT. THE UPPER LOW WILL ALSO REPOSITION AN
UPPER RIDGE CURRENTLY ATOP THE STATE AND HELP MOISTEN UP THE
ATMOSPHERE AFTER A DRY PERIOD, DESPITE THE MODEL CONSENSUS THAT
THE COLD FRONT AND GREATEST FOCUS FOR MOISTURE SHOULD STAY TO THE
WEST. SOME ENHANCED MOISTURE MAY SNEAK INTO AT LEAST THE
NORTHWESTERN ISLANDS THOUGH. ADDITIONALLY, A GENERALLY
NORTHWEST-SOUTHEAST ORIENTED MOISTURE FRONT TO THE EAST OF THE
MAIN SYSTEM LOOKS TO SLOWLY PUSH THROUGH THE STATE AROUND
SATURDAY. ALL THIS WILL LIKELY INCREASE COVERAGE OF SHOWERS.
REASONABLY MOIST CONDITIONS LOOK TO PERSIST INTO EARLY-MID NEXT
WEEK WHILE BREEZY EASTERLY WINDS CONTINUE AND PROMOTE
WINDWARD/MAUKA SHOWERS, WITH SOME PERHAPS SPILLING INTO LEEWARD
AREAS.
