HAWAII EXTENDED FORECAST DISCUSSION
NWS WEATHER PREDICTION CENTER COLLEGE PARK MD
359 AM EDT SAT MAR 23 2024

VALID 00Z SUN MAR 24 2024 - 00Z SUN MAR 31 2024

FOR THE WEEKEND, A SURFACE HIGH TO THE NORTH-NORTHEAST OF HAWAII
WILL BE IN PLACE, PROMOTING BREEZY TO WINDY EASTERLY TRADES. DRIER
THAN AVERAGE MOISTURE LEVELS (IN TERMS OF PRECIPITABLE WATER) ARE
PRESENT THROUGH SATURDAY, SO SOME WINDWARD/MAUKA SHOWERS ARE
POSSIBLE, BUT LIKELY NOTHING TOO HEAVY CONSIDERING THE DRY
CONDITIONS. BY EARLY NEXT WEEK, A CLOSED UPPER LOW CENTERED SOUTH
OF THE STATE SHOULD LESSEN STABILITY A BIT AND HELP PROMOTE
MOISTURE RETURN FROM THE SOUTH. THIS COULD INCREASE COVERAGE OF
SHOWERS AND RAIN AMOUNTS THAT STILL MAINLY FOCUS IN WINDWARD/MAUKA
AREAS WITH SOME PERHAPS SPILLING OVER INTO LEEWARD AREAS GIVEN THE
TRADE WIND PATTERN. A MINOR DROP IN WINDS IS POSSIBLE AROUND
MONDAY-TUESDAY AS THE SURFACE HIGH SHIFTS FARTHER EAST, BEFORE
ANOTHER HIGH COMES IN TO THE NORTH OF THE STATE AND STRENGTHENS
WINDS AGAIN AROUND MIDWEEK AND BEYOND. SLIGHTLY ELEVATED MOISTURE
LEVELS MAY REMAIN INTO MUCH OF NEXT WEEK.
