HAWAII EXTENDED FORECAST DISCUSSION
NWS WEATHER PREDICTION CENTER COLLEGE PARK MD
330 AM EDT SUN MAY 05 2024

VALID 00Z MON MAY 06 2024 - 00Z MON MAY 13 2024

LATEST GUIDANCE AGREES THAT POTENT SURFACE HIGH PRESSURE BUILT TO
THE NORTH OF HAWAII WILL FAVOR BREEZY TO LOCALLY STRONG ISLAND
TRADES THROUGH EARLY THIS WEEK. MEANWHILE MODEL GUIDANCE ALSO
SHOWS A MID-UPPER TROUGH/LOW WORKING NEAR THE STATE. EXPECT SOME
INSTABILITY FOR INCREASED SHOWERS, WHICH WOULD FAVOR WINDWARD AND
MAUKA AREAS GIVEN TRADE FLOW. SLIGHTLY ABOVE AVERAGE MOISTURE
ANOMALIES MAY PEAK AROUND MONDAY-TUESDAY. RAINFALL TOTALS DO NOT
APPEAR TO BE SIGNIFICANTLY HIGH. TRADES MAY DECREASE THROUGH THE
REST OF THE WEEK AS THE SUPPORTING HIGH WEAKENS WITH ONSET OF
MID-LATITUDE UPPER TROUGHING/HEIGHT FALLS AND SURFACE FRONTAL
APPROACH, BUT WILL LESS CERTAINTY REBOUND NEXT WEEKEND WITH
REBUILDING OF POST-FRONTAL HIGH PRESSURE TO THE NORTH OF THE
STATE.
