HAWAII EXTENDED FORECAST DISCUSSION
NWS WEATHER PREDICTION CENTER COLLEGE PARK MD
225 AM EST TUE MAR 4 2025

VALID 00Z WED MAR 5 2025 - 00Z WED MAR 12 2025

A LARGE SUBTROPICAL HIGH WILL BE IN PLACE NORTH OF HAWAII THROUGH
THE MIDDLE OF THE WEEK, CENTERED BETWEEN 30-35 DEGREES NORTH. BY
THURSDAY, THIS HIGH WILL BE NORTHEAST OF THE STATE WITH A COL
DEVELOPING WITHIN THE RIDGE AXIS AS A FRONTAL BOUNDARY APPROACHES
THE NORTHWESTERN ISLANDS. AFTER THAT, THE SUBTROPICAL HIGH THEN
REBUILDS NEXT WEEKEND IN A SIMILAR POSITION TO THE HIGH EARLY THIS
WEEK. HOWEVER, THE HIGH NEXT WEEKEND SHOULD HAVE MORE STAYING
POWER WITH THE NEXT TROUGH LIKELY STAYING FARTHER AWAY FROM THE
STATE. THE ENSEMBLE MEANS ARE IN RELATIVELY GOOD AGREEMENT ON THIS
SCENARIO.

THE STRONG HIGH NORTH OF THE STATE WILL INCREASE THE PRESSURE
GRADIENT AND THEREFORE WINDY EASTERLY FLOW IS EXPECTED, WITH THE
HIGHEST WINDS EARLY IN THE WEEKEND AND ALSO NEXT WEEKEND. IT
REMAINS TO BE SEEN IF THE COLD FRONT REACHES THE NORTHERN/CENTRAL
ISLANDS, BUT A FLOW TURNING TO THE NORTHEAST WOULD DEVELOP IF THE
FRONT PASSES THROUGH. IN TERMS OF RAINFALL PROSPECTS, NO MAJOR
EVENTS ARE EXPECTED OVER THE NEXT WEEK, WITH MAINLY TERRAIN
ENHANCED SHOWERS EACH DAY.
