DISCUSSION

KEY WEATHER MESSAGES...

CENTRAL AND EASTERN INTERIOR...
- QUIET AND SEASONABLY CHILLY WITH MAX TEMPERATURES AROUND 0 TO 10
ABOVE ZERO AND MIN TEMPERATURES IN THE TEENS AND 20S BELOW ZERO.

- GUSTY WINDS FROM DELTA JUNCTION TO NENANA. WIND GUSTS AS HIGH AS
50 MPH IN DELTA JUNCTION AND UP TO 30 MPH TOWARDS NENANA THROUGH
AT LEAST THURSDAY.

- NO PRECIPITATION EXPECTED THIS WEEK.

WEST COAST AND WESTERN INTERIOR...
- LIGHT SNOW WITH UP TO AN INCH ON THE SEWARD PENINSULA,
ESPECIALLY IN THE TERRAIN.

- GUSTY EAST WINDS UP TO 45 MPH ALONG THE COAST TODAY AND TONIGHT
THEN WEAKENING TOMORROW.

- DRY FOR MOST SPOTS THROUGH THE END OF THE WEEK, THEN SLIGHT
CHANCES FOR SNOW IN THE YK DELTA THIS WEEKEND.

NORTH SLOPE AND BROOKS RANGE...
- QUIET AND CLEAR AS A HIGH PRESSURE SITS TO THE NORTH.

- WINDS WILL BE WEAKENING AND TEMPERATURES REMAIN IN THE SINGLE
DIGITS TO TEENS BELOW ZERO ALONG THE COAST, AND IN THE 20S/30S
BELOW INLAND.

ANALYSIS AND FORECAST CONFIDENCE...
HIGH CONFIDENCE FOR LIMITED WEATHER HAZARDS THIS WEEK. A HIGH
PRESSURE TO THE NORTH WILL REMAIN NEARBY KEEPING IT CHILLY AND DRY
ON THE SLOPE. HIGH PRESSURE OVER CANADA IS SNEAKING ITS WAY INTO
THE CENTRAL AND EASTERN INTERIOR KEEPING IT QUIET BUT A BIT BREEZY
NEAR DELTA JUNCTION. PERSISTENT LOW PRESSURES MOVING FROM THE GULF
OF ALASKA TO THE CENTRAL BERING WILL KEEP THE WEST COAST DRY AND
HAZARD-LESS WITH OFFSHORE WINDS EXPECTED TO CONTINUE.

EXTENDED FORECAST DAYS 4-7...
THE ONLY REAL POTENTIAL HAZARD FOR THE NEXT WEEK WILL BE STRONG
NORTHERLY WINDS THROUGH THE BERING STRAIT THIS WEEKEND. WIND GUSTS
HAVE THE POTENTIAL TO BE UPWARDS OF 60+ MPH. THIS WILL HELP
RAPIDLY INCREASE ICE GROWTH TOWARDS ST. LAWRENCE ISLAND, BUT MAY
ALSO CAUSE SIGNIFICANT FREEZING SPRAY ALONG IN SAVOONGA AND
GAMBELL. THIS WILL HAVE TO BE MONITORED CLOSELY.

COASTAL HAZARD POTENTIAL DAYS 3 AND 4...STRONG NORTHERLY WINDS
THROUGH THE BERING STRAIT THIS WEEKEND. EROSION SEEMS TO BE THE
MAIN CONCERN, BUT HIGH WATER DOES NOT LOOK CONCERNING AT THIS
POINT.
