...WESTWARD-MOVING DISTURBANCE NEAR SATAWAL TO BRING HEAVY SHOWERS
AND STRONG GUSTS THROUGH FRIDAY...

A WEAK CIRCULATION IS FOUND SOUTHEAST OF SATAWAL NEAR 6N149E AND IS
SLOWLY MOVING WEST. IT HAS BEEN LABELED INVEST 97W BY THE JOINT
TYPHOON WARNING CENTER AND HAS BEEN RATED A LOW FOR DEVELOPMENT
POTENTIAL. OVERNIGHT INFRARED SATELLITE IMAGERY HAS SHOWN FLARING
DEEP CONVECTION RESULTING IN HEAVY SHOWERS AND BURSTS OF
THUNDERSTORMS, MOSTLY NORTH OF THE CENTER OF THIS CIRCULATION. MORE
NOTABLY, LATE EVENING SCATTEROMETRY DATA INDICATED 30 TO 40 MPH
EASTERLY WINDS NORTH OF THE CIRCULATION CENTER, JUST WEST OF CHUUK
LAGOON AS THE CIRCULATION EXITED THE WENO AREA. THESE WINDS ARE THE
RESULT OF BOTH THE WEAK CIRCULATION AND A STRONGER SURGE OF TRADE
WINDS TO THE NORTH.

WHILE MODELS INDICATE HEAVIER SHOWERS AND THUNDERSTORMS WILL CONTINUE
TO PULSE THROUGH FRIDAY, THE BROADER CONCERN REMAINS FOCUSED ON THE
STRONGER WINDS, GUSTS, AND THEIR EFFECT ON THE SEA STATE. AS THE
CIRCULATION CONTINUES WESTWARD, HEAVIER SHOWERS WILL LIKELY BRING
STRONGER GUSTS OF 30 TO 40 MPH TO SOME OF THE ISLANDS BETWEEN YAP AND
CHUUK, MOSTLY THOSE BETWEEN 6N AND 10N. SEAS OF 5 TO 8 FEET, AS SEEN
IN OVERNIGHT ALTIMETRY DATA, MAY LIKELY SPIKE UP TO 9 TO 12 FEET IN
RESPONSE TO THE BURSTS OF WINDS.

ALTHOUGH COMPUTER MODELS SHOW A GRADUAL DISSIPATION OF 97W IN THE
FRIDAY-SATURDAY TIME FRAME AS IT APPROACHES 140E, RESIDENTS AND
MARINERS ARE URGED TO KEEP AWARE OF THE LATEST FORECASTS FOR THE
REGION AT WEATHER.GOV/GUM/PUBLICFORECASTS AND FOR MORE INFORMATION
