...EXCEPTIONAL/EXTREME DROUGHT PERSIST ACROSS MUCH OF SOUTHEAST  
WASHINGTON AND CENTRAL AND NORTHEAST OREGON...  
 
.SYNOPSIS:  
AREAS OF DROUGHT CONTINUE ACROSS MUCH OF SOUTH CENTRAL AND  
SOUTHEAST WASHINGTON AS WELL AS CENTRAL AND NORTHEAST OREGON.  
 
WHILE ABOVE NORMAL PRECIPITATION WAS NOTED ACROSS MUCH OF EASTERN  
WASHINGTON AND OREGON FOR THE MONTH OF SEPTEMBER, IT DID LITTLE  
REDUCE THE DROUGHT CONDITIONS ACROSS THE REGION.  
 
ACCORDING TO THE U.S. DROUGHT MONITOR RELEASED ON OCTOBER 14TH...  
EXCEPTIONAL DROUGHT EXTENDS FROM CENTRAL AND NORTH CENTRAL OREGON  
THROUGH PORTIONS OF NORTHEAST OREGON WITH EXTREME DROUGHT OVER  
THE REMAINDER OF NORTHEAST OREGON. MODERATE TO EXTREME DROUGHT HAS  
EXPANDED ACROSS MUCH OF SOUTH CENTRAL AND SOUTHEAST WASHINGTON.  
 
MODERATE TO EXTREME DROUGHT IS NOTED ALONG THE EAST SLOPES OF THE  
CENTRAL AND SOUTHERN WASHINGTON CASCADES, WITH EXCEPTIONAL  
DROUGHT EXTENDING ACROSS THE REST OF EASTERN WASHINGTON.  
 
A DROUGHT EMERGENCY HAS BEEN ISSUED BY THE WASHINGTON DEPARTMENT  
OF ECOLOGY FOR MUCH OF STATE OF WASHINGTON. DROUGHT DECLARATION  
ARE IN EFFECT FOR ALL EASTERN OREGON COUNTIES.  
 
THE LATEST SEASONAL DROUGHT OUTLOOK INDICATES THAT DROUGHT  
CONDITIONS WILL IMPROVE THROUGH THE FALL AND WINTER, BUT SOME  
AREAS OF DROUGHT WILL PERSIST.  
 
DROUGHT IMPACT REPORTS CAN BE FOUND VIA THE U.S. DROUGHT PORTAL  
IN THE RELATED WEBSITES SECTION.  
   
HYDROLOGIC CONDITIONS AND CLIMATE SUMMARY
 
 
WATER YEAR 2021 PRECIPITATION, (OCT 1, 2020 - SEPTEMBER 30, 2021)  
WAS BELOW NORMAL ACROSS MUCH OF OREGON AND WASHINGTON.  
 
MUCH OF EASTERN WASHINGTON AND EASTERN OREGON SAW ONLY 50 TO 70  
PERCENT OF NORMAL PRECIPITATION.  
 
AVERAGE TEMPERATURES FOR THE 2021 WATER YEAR WERE GENERALLY ABOVE  
NORMAL. MOST AREAS WERE BEEN 1 TO 2 DEGREES ABOVE NORMAL, WHILE  
MUCH OF SOUTH CENTRAL WASHINGTON SAW TEMPERATURES 2-3 DEGREES  
ABOVE NORMAL.  
 
AVERAGE STREAMFLOW AT THE MAJORITY OF USGS GAGING STATIONS ACROSS  
CENTRAL AND NORTH CENTRAL OREGON AS WELL AS SOUTHERN WASHINGTON  
CONTINUE TO BE BELOW NORMAL TO MUCH BELOW NORMAL.  
 
THE OUTLOOK FOR OCTOBER FROM CLIMATE PREDICTION CENTER HAS  
ABOVE NORMAL TEMPERATURES AND INCREASED CHANCES OF ABOVE NORMAL  
PRECIPITATION.  
 
THE THREE MONTH OUTLOOK FROM THE CLIMATE PREDICTION  
CENTER FOR NOVEMBER THROUGH JANUARY HAS EQUAL CHANCES OF ABOVE OR  
BELOW NORMAL TEMPERATURES, WITH INCREASED CHANCES OF ABOVE NORMAL  
PRECIPITATION.
