..BEACH HAZARDS STATEMENT IN EFFECT THROUGH THIS EVENING
 
 
THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE IN MELBOURNE HAS ISSUED A BEACH  
HAZARDS STATEMENT FOR DANGEROUS RIP CURRENTS AND A STRONG  
LONGSHORE CURRENT, WHICH IS IN EFFECT THROUGH THIS EVENING.  
 
* HAZARDS...BREEZY SOUTHERLY WINDS WILL GENERATE A STRONG  
NORTHWARD MOVING CURRENT ALONG THE COAST, WITH DANGEROUS RIP  
CURRENTS ALONG AREA BEACHES TODAY.  
 
* TIMING...STRONG NORTHWARD FLOWING CURRENTS WILL BE PRESENT FROM  
TODAY THROUGH THIS EVENING, WITH THE RISK FOR RIP CURRENTS BEING  
PARTICULARLY HIGH FROM 11:00 AM THROUGH LATE THIS AFTERNOON DUE  
TO THE OUTGOING TIDE.  
 
* LOCATION...ALL OF THE EAST CENTRAL FLORIDA COAST.  
 
* POTENTIAL IMPACTS...A NORTHWARD FLOWING CURRENT CAN BE STRONG  
ENOUGH TO KNOCK YOU OFF THE SANDBAR INTO DEEPER WATER, MAKING  
YOU MORE SUSCEPTIBLE TO DANGEROUS RIP CURRENTS ALONG AREA  
BEACHES.  
 
 
PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...  
 
SWIM NEAR A LIFEGUARD. IF CAUGHT IN A RIP CURRENT, RELAX AND  
FLOAT. DON'T SWIM AGAINST THE CURRENT. IF ABLE, SWIM IN A  
DIRECTION FOLLOWING THE SHORELINE. IF UNABLE TO ESCAPE, FACE THE  
SHORE AND CALL OR WAVE FOR HELP.
