...ABOVE AVERAGE PRECIPITATION FOR JUNE ACROSS NORTHEAST FLORIDA  
AND PORTIONS OF SOUTHEAST GEORGIA...  
 
SUMMARY...JUNE 2020 FEATURED ABOVE AVERAGE PRECIPITATION FOR MOST OF  
THE AREA. MOST OF THE RAINFALL OCCURRED DURING THE FIRST TWO WEEKS  
OF THE MONTH AND WAS MAINLY ASSOCIATED WITH TROPICAL MOISTURE THAT  
CAME NORTH IN RESPONSE TO TROPICAL STORM CRISTOBAL IN THE GULF OF  
MEXICO. THE ABUNDANT CLOUDS AND RAINFALL KEPT TEMPERATURES COOLER  
THAN NORMAL THE FIRST HALF OF THE MONTH BUT THE RETURN OF INTENSE  
SUMMER HEAT THE LAST 10 DAYS OF THE MONTH BROUGHT AVERAGE  
TEMPERATURES FOR JUNE CLOSER TO NORMAL BY THE END OF THE MONTH.  
LOCALIZED FLASH FLOODING WAS REPORTED FROM THE HEAVY RAINFALL ON  
JUNE 7TH ALONG THE I-10 CORRIDOR OF NORTHEAST FLORIDA FROM LIVE OAK  
EAST TO JACKSONVILLE. THE RAINFALL BROUGHT MINOR FLOODING TO THE  
NORTH FORK OF BLACK CREEK ON JUNE 8TH. THE 24 HOUR RAINFALL TOTAL OF  
4.40 INCHES AT THE JACKSONVILLE AIRPORT FROM JUNE 6TH INTO THE 7TH  
WAS THE 12TH HIGHEST TOTAL FOR JUNE ON RECORD AND THE HIGHEST FOR  
JUNE SINCE TROPICAL STORM DEBBY IN 2012. THE LATTER HALF OF THE  
MONTH WAS PUNCTUATED BY NORMAL DAILY THUNDERSTORM ACTIVITY EXCEPT  
FOR THE PERIOD FROM JUNE 25TH THROUGH THE 27TH WHEN HAZY CONDITIONS  
DEVELOPED DUE TO THE ARRIVAL OF THE SAHARAN DUST THAT BROUGHT  
REDUCED VISIBILITIES AND TEMPORARY AIR QUALITY ISSUES TO THE REGION.  
 
AT JACKSONVILLE INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT...  
 
TEMPERATURES...THE AVERAGE TEMPERATURE FOR JUNE WAS 79.5 DEGREES  
WHICH IS 0.4 DEGREES BELOW NORMAL. THE AVERAGE DAILY HIGH WAS 88.9  
DEGREES AND THE HIGHEST TEMPERATURE OF THE MONTH WAS 96 DEGREES ON  
THE 30TH. THERE WERE 14 DAYS WITH TEMPERATURES OF 90 DEGREES OR  
HIGHER, NORMAL IS 17 DAYS IN JUNE. THE AVERAGE DAILY LOW TEMPERATURE  
OF THE MONTH WAS 70.1 DEGREES AND THE LOWEST TEMPERATURE OF THE  
MONTH WAS 62 DEGREES WHICH OCCURRED ON JUNE 3RD, 16TH AND 17TH. ONE  
DAILY RECORD LOW TEMPERATURE WAS SET ON JUNE 16TH WHEN IT REACHED 62  
DEGREES AND THIS WAS THE FIRST RECORD LOW TEMPERATURE IN ALMOST 2  
YEARS AT THE AIRPORT LOCATION.  
 
THE AVERAGE DEWPOINT (TD) TEMPERATURE WAS 70.4 DEGREES WHICH IS 0.3  
DEGREES BELOW NORMAL. THE DEWPOINT TEMPERATURE REACHED 80 DEGREES ON  
JUNE 8TH, WHICH IS ONE DEGREE SHY OF THE ALL-TIME JUNE RECORD OF 81  
DEGREES. THIS HIGH HUMIDITY PUSHED THE HEAT INDEX TO 108 DEGREES ON  
THE 8TH, THE PEAK VALUE OF JUNE. DAILY DEWPOINT RECORDS WERE SET ON  
THE 8TH AT 80 DEGREES, THEN 79 DEGREES ON JUNE 9TH AND 78 DEGREES ON  
JUNE 10TH AND 11TH.  
 
RAINFALL...THE MONTHLY RAINFALL TOTALED 9.86 INCHES WHICH IS 3.41  
INCHES ABOVE NORMAL. THIS JUNE RANKED AS THE 16TH WETTEST ON RECORD  
SINCE 1871. THE GREATEST 24 HOUR RAINFALL TOTAL OCCURRED ON THE 6TH  
AND 7TH OF JUNE WITH A MAXIMUM DAILY RAINFALL TOTAL OF 4.40 INCHES.  
NO DAILY RAINFALL RECORDS WERE SET THIS MONTH. INTENSE THUNDERSTORM  
ON JUNE 12TH HAD SOME IMPRESSIVE RAINFALL RATES AT THE JAX AIRPORT  
ALTHOUGH NOT IN THE TOP 10 ALL-TIME FOR JUNE. THE RAINFALL RATES  
INCLUDED 0.41" IN 5 MIN, 0.68" IN 10 MIN, 0.90" IN 15 MIN, 1.14" IN  
30 MIN, 1.43" IN 60 MIN, 1.80" IN 120 MIN AND 1.92" IN 180 MIN.  
 
WINDS...THE AVERAGE WIND SPEED WAS 6.0 MILES PER HOUR WHICH IS 0.3  
MPH BELOW NORMAL. THE PEAK WIND GUST WAS 51 MILES PER HOUR FROM THE  
SOUTHWEST ON JUNE 27TH. NO DAILY WIND GUST RECORDS WERE SET THIS  
MONTH.  
 
OTHER DATA...THERE WERE 14 DAYS WITH THUNDERSTORMS REPORTED AT THE  
AIRPORT WHICH IS 1 DAY LESS THAN AVERAGE FOR JUNE. THERE WERE 2 DAYS

AVERAGE TEMPERATURES. THE PRECIPITATION OUTLOOK INDICATES BETWEEN A  
40 TO 50 PERCENT CHANCE OF ABOVE AVERAGE RAINFALL OVER SOUTHEAST  
GEORGIA AND NORTHEAST FLORIDA FOR JULY. THE AVERAGE TEMPERATURE FOR  
JULY IS 82.3 DEGREES WHILE THE AVERAGE MAXIMUM TEMPERATURE IS 92.0  
DEGREES AND THE AVERAGE MINIMUM TEMPERATURE IS 72.6 DEGREES. AVERAGE  
RAINFALL FOR THE MONTH OF JULY IS 6.55 INCHES.
