A LONG, 13 SECOND PERIOD OCEAN SWELL OF 2 TO 3 FEET AT HAS FORMED  
ALONG THE EAST CENTRAL FLORIDA COAST THIS MORNING, INCREASING THE  
RISK FOR POTENTIALLY LIFE-THREATENING RIP CURRENTS TO DEVELOP IN  
THE SURF ZONE TODAY.

THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE IN MELBOURNE HAS ISSUED A HIGH RIP  
CURRENT RISK, WHICH IS IN EFFECT THROUGH 900 PM.  
 
* TIMING...WHILE DANGEROUS RIP CURRENTS WILL BE PRESENT ALL DAY,  
THE THREAT WILL BE HIGHEST FROM AROUND 7 AM UNTIL 130 PM, AND  
AGAIN FROM 700 PM THROUGH EARLY EVENING.  
 
* IMPACTS...LIFE THREATENING RIP CURRENTS ARE LIKELY TODAY.  
SEVERAL RIP CURRENT RESCUES WERE REPORTED BY BEACH AUTHORITIES  
ON MEMORIAL DAY.  
 
PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...  
 
THERE IS A HIGH RISK OF RIP CURRENTS.  
 
RIP CURRENTS ARE POWERFUL CHANNELS OF WATER FLOWING QUICKLY AWAY  
FROM SHORE, WHICH OCCUR MOST OFTEN AT LOW SPOTS OR BREAKS IN THE  
SANDBAR AND IN THE VICINITY OF STRUCTURES SUCH AS JETTIES AND  
PIERS. HEED THE ADVICE OF LIFEGUARDS...BEACH PATROL FLAGS AND  
SIGNS.  
 
SWIM NEAR A LIFEGUARD. IF CAUGHT IN A RIP CURRENT, RELAX AND  
FLOAT. DON'T SWIM AGAINST THE CURRENT. IF ABLE, SWIM IN A  
DIRECTION FOLLOWING THE SHORELINE. IF UNABLE TO ESCAPE, FACE THE
