..A WARM AND MUGGY JULY AREAWIDE
 
 
THE MONTH OF JULY ENDED AS YET ANOTHER ABOVE NORMAL MONTH ACROSS  
THE AREA, GENERALLY 2 TO 4 DEGREES ABOVE AVERAGE. SEVERAL OF OUR  
CLIMATE SITES BREACHED THE TOP 10 FOR WARMEST JULY ON RECORD.  
WHILE OUR MOUNTAIN SITES EXPERIENCED A FEW 90 DEGREE DAYS, OUR  
LOWLAND LOCALES RECORDED ANYWHERE FROM 7 TO 16 DAYS REACHING OR  
ECLIPSING 90 DEGREES. THE HEAT CAME WITH HIGH HUMIDITY THAT LASTED  
FOR MUCH OF THE MONTH. AT ITS PEAK, A 3 TO 4 DAY STRETCH OF 100  
PLUS DEGREE HEAT INDICES ACROSS THE LOWLANDS WERE OBSERVED TO  
BEGIN THE 3RD WEEK OF THE MONTH.  
 
WHILE THE HEAT WAS OBSERVED AREAWIDE, RAINFALL TURNED OUT TO BE A  
TALE OF THE HAVE AND HAVE NOTS. PARTS OF SOUTHEAST OHIO AND ALL OF  
NORTHERN WEST VIRGINIA EXPERIENCED A VERY WET MONTH, AS 150 TO  
250 PERCENT OF NORMAL RAINFALL WAS RECORDED. ON THE CONTRARY, MUCH  
OF CENTRAL AND SOUTHERN WEST VIRGINIA ENDED THE MONTH IN A  
DEFICIT, HAVING OBSERVED 50 TO 75 PERCENT OF NORMAL RAINFALL.  
 
BELOW IS A SUMMARY OF SITES THAT EXPERIENCED A TOP 10 JULY FOR  
EITHER TEMPERATURE OR PRECIPITATION.  
 
AT BECKLEY: AN AVERAGE TEMPERATURES OF 73.5 DEGREES WAS OBSERVED,  
WHICH IS 2.9 DEGREES ABOVE NORMAL. THIS TIES FOR 8TH WARMEST JULY  
ON RECORD.  
 
AT CLARKSBURG: AN AVERAGE TEMPERATURE OF 77.0 DEGREES WAS  
OBSERVED, WHICH IS 4.5 DEGREES ABOVE NORMAL. THIS RANKS AS 4TH  
WARMEST JULY ON RECORD.  
 
AT ELKINS: AN AVERAGE TEMPERATURE OF 73.5 DEGREES WAS OBSERVED,  
WHICH IS 3.5 DEGREES ABOVE NORMAL. THIS RANKS AS 6TH WARMEST JULY  
ON RECORD.  
 
AT CHARLESTON: A MONTHLY PRECIPITATION TOTAL OF 2.41 INCHES WAS  
OBSERVED, WHICH IS 2.53 INCHES BELOW NORMAL. THIS RANKS AS 8TH  
DRIEST JULY ON RECORD.  
 
AT PARKERSBURG: A MONTHLY PRECIPITATION TOTAL OF 7.77 INCHES WAS  
OBSERVED, WHICH IS 4.21 INCHES ABOVE NORMAL. THIS RANKS AS 7TH  
WETTEST JULY ON RECORD.  
 
THE FOLLOWING ARE THE NUMBER OF 90 DEGREE DAYS OR HIGHER THAT WERE
