.THE SOUND SIDE OF THE OUTER BANKS SAW SIGNIFICANT STORM SURGE  
LAST NIGHT. CONDITIONS ARE IMPROVING QUICKLY THIS MORNING AS  
WINDS DIMINISH, BUT EXPECT MINOR FLOODING TO LINGER FOR THE NEXT  
SEVERAL HOURS. WATER LEVELS WILL CONTINUE TO IMPROVE AND RECEDE  
THROUGH THE MORNING. A HIGH RISK OF RIP CURRENTS CONTINUES ALONG  
THE BEACHES TODAY.

* TIDAL DEPARTURE...UP TO 2 FEET ABOVE GROUND LEVEL.  
 
* TIMING AND TIDES...WATER LEVELS WILL GRADUALLY RECEDE THROUGH  
THE MORNING. THE MOST LIKELY TIME FOR STRONG RIP CURRENTS TO  
OCCUR IS A COUPLE HOURS EITHER SIDE OF LOW TIDE, WHICH WILL  
OCCUR AROUND 5:00 PM THIS EVENING.  
 
* SURF HEIGHT...3 TO 6 FEET.  
 
* COASTAL FLOOD IMPACTS...MINOR SOUND SIDE FLOODING WILL  
CONTINUE FOR AREAS ADJACENT TO THE ALBEMARLE AND PAMLICO  
SOUNDS, WITH HIGHEST VALUES NORTH OF CAPE HATTERAS. SOME ROADS  
MAY STILL BE IMPASSABLE THIS MORNING. WATER LEVELS WILL  
CONTINUE TO RECEDE AND IMPROVE THROUGH THE MORNING AS WINDS  
CONTINUE TO DIMINISH.  
 
PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...  
 
IF CAUGHT IN A RIP CURRENT REMAIN CALM. DON'T FIGHT THE CURRENT.  
SWIM IN A DIRECTION FOLLOWING THE SHORELINE. WHEN OUT OF THE  
CURRENT, SWIM BACK TO SHORE. IF TIRED, FLOAT OR TREAD WATER UNTIL  
OUT OF THE RIP CURRENT. IF UNABLE TO ESCAPE, FACE THE SHORE AND  
CALL OR WAVE FOR HELP.  
 
A COASTAL FLOOD ADVISORY INDICATES THAT ONSHORE WINDS AND TIDES  
WILL COMBINE TO GENERATE FLOODING OF LOW AREAS ALONG THE SHORE.
