DISCUSSION

ISSUED AT 222 AM CST THU JAN 16 2025

TODAY WOULD BE A GOOD DAY TO GET OUT AND ENJOY THE MILD TEMPERATURES
WHILE THEY STILL EXIST. VERY MILD HIGHS OF 55F TO 60F ARE EXPECTED
ACROSS THE WESTERN ZONES TODAY. WE WILL SEE COOLER HIGHS WITH 40S
OVER THE SNOWPACK ACROSS THE EASTERN ZONES. OBVIOUSLY LOWER 50S WILL
BE SANDWICHED BETWEEN THOSE TWO AREAS. WINDS WILL BE FAIRLY LIGHT
FOR KANSAS WINTER STANDARDS. A LIGHT WESTERLY TO NORTHWESTERLY WIND
EXPECTED FIRST, BECOMING LIGHT AND VARIABLE BY NOON AND EVENTUALLY
A LIGHT SOUTHERLY WIND TONIGHT. LOWS TONIGHT WILL BE NEAR NORMAL
WITH VALUES IN THE 20S. A FRONT WILL TRAVERSE THE FA FRIDAY. DO EXPECT
COOLER HIGHS WITH 50S WEST TO 40S EAST. THE REAL COLD AIR ADVECTION
STARTS TO SURGE SOUTHWARD ACROSS THE STATE SATURDAY. 850 HPA TEMPERATURES
LOOK TO CRASH DOWN IN THE -8C TO -12C RANGE. AS A RESULT, EXPECT
MUCH COLDER HIGHS SATURDAY WITH VALUES ONLY PEAKING IN THE 20S.
THERE MIGHT BE SOME LIGHT SNOWFALL ACROSS THE WESTERN ZONES AS THE
SLUG OF ARCTIC AIR SPREADS SOUTHWARD ACROSS THE GREATER REGION. THE
STRONG ARCTIC AIRMASS WILL PREVAIL ACROSS THE PLAINS SUNDAY AND MONDAY.
MONDAY LOOKS TO BE THE COLDEST DAY WITH HIGHS ONLY IN THE TEENS.
WILL HAVE TO WATCH LOWS SUNDAY THROUGH TUESDAY MORNING. LOWS OF -5F
TO 5F LOOKS LIKELY DURING THIS PERIOD. WIND CHILLS WILL BE QUITE
COLD AS WELL WITH VALUES BOTTOMING OUT BELOW 0 DEGREES FAHRENHEIT.
SOME LIGHT SNOW CANNOT BE RULED OUT EITHER MONDAY AS THE ARCTIC AIRMASS
PREVAILS. THIS AIRMASS MIGHT BE DISLODGED TUESDAY AS DOWNSLOPE FLOW
DEVELOPS OFF THE ROCKIES. AS A RESULT, WE WILL SEE MODERATING TEMPERATURES
AS THIS FLOW PATTERN CHANGES TO CLOSE OUT THE REST OF THE FORECAST
PERIOD/BUSINESS WEEK.

TOMORROW MORNING. A COLD FRONT WILL THEN MOVE THROUGH THE AREA
BY TOMORROW AFTERNOON SHIFTING WINDS TO THE NORTH WITH AN
INCREASE IN SPEED.
