DISCUSSION

ISSUED AT 222 AM CST FRI JAN 17 2025

IT WILL NOT BE AS QUITE AS WARM TODAY THAN COMPARED TO YESTERDAY.
HIGHS TODAY SHOULD PEAK IN THE LOWER TO MID 50S. THE MAIN EXCEPTION
TO THIS IS 40S WILL STILL BE POSSIBLE OVER THE SNOWPACK ACROSS THE
EASTERN ZONES. ONE THING THAT WILL BE MORE NOTICEABLE TODAY IS THE
WIND. A FRONT WILL TRAVERSE ACROSS THE FA MIDDAY. AS THE FRONT CLEARS
THE AREA, EXPECT WINDS TO SWITCH OUT OF THE NORTH AND INCREASE IN
SPEED. NORTH WINDS BLOWING 20 TO 30 MPH WITH HIGHER GUSTS IS EVENTUALLY
EXPECTED TODAY. LOWS TONIGHT WILL BE RATHER UNREMARKABLE WITH VALUES
IN THE TEENS TO LOWER 20S. THE BRUNT OF THE COLD AIR ADVECTION IS
STILL EXPECTED TO TAKE PLACE ON SATURDAY. 850 HPA TEMPERATURES WILL
CRASH DOWN IN THE -8C TO -14C RANGE THROUGH THE DAY. AS A RESULT,
EXPECT DRAMATICALLY COLDER HIGHS WITH VALUES ONLY IN THE 20S. THERE
ALSO MIGHT BE SOME LIGHT SNOWFALL SATURDAY AS THE SLUG OF ARCTIC
AIR SPREADS SOUTHWARD ACROSS THE GREATER REGION. THE HIGHEST POPS
WILL BE KEPT ACROSS THE WESTERN ZONES. SNOWFALL AMOUNTS OVERALL SHOULD
BE LIGHT WITH AN INCH OR UNDER FOR MUCH OF THE FA. THE STRONG ARCTIC
HIGH PRESSURE CENTER WILL CONTINUE SUNDAY AS WELL. STILL COLD WITH
HIGHS ONLY IN THE 20S AND LOWS IN THE SINGLE DIGITS. MONDAY STILL
LOOKS TO BE THE COLDEST DAY WITH 850 HPA TEMPERATURES IN THE -15C
TO -20C RANGE. THIS SUPPORTS HIGHS IN TEENS. COLD LOWS OF -5F TO
5F LOOKS LIKELY TUESDAY MORNING. WILL HAVE TO WATCH WIND CHILLS DURING
THIS PERIOD AS WELL AS VALUES COULD BOTTOM OUT IN THE 10 TO 20 BELOW
RANGE. THERE MIGHT BE SOME MORE LIGHT SNOW ONCE AGAIN MONDAY AS THE
COLD AIR MASS PREVAILS. THE AIRMASS FINALLY MIGHT BECOME DISLODGED
TUESDAY AND WEDNESDAY AS DOWNSLOPE FLOW DEVELOPS OFF THE ROCKIES.
MODERATING CONDITIONS LOOKS LIKELY THEREAFTER.
