DISCUSSION

STRONG WEST TO WEST-SOUTHWEST WINDS ARE EXPECTED IN AND AROUND
THE FIRE AREA TODAY AS AN DISTURBANCE MOVES THROUGH THE DESERT
SOUTHWEST. GUSTS ALREADY ONGOING WILL INCREASE, PEAKING BETWEEN
1300 AND 1700 MDT, WITH GUSTS IN EXCESS OF 60 MPH LIKELY. RELATIVE
HUMIDITY WILL BOTTOM OUT BETWEEN 1500 AND 1800 MDT WITH VALUES AT
OR SLIGHTLY ABOVE CRITICAL THRESHOLDS. REGARDLESS OF THE
POTENTIAL FOR SUB-CRITICAL RH, WINDS WILL WORK TO OVERPOWER ANY
MOISTURE AVAILABILITY, ESPECIALLY IN FINER FUELS. WINDS WILL
GRADUALLY DIMINISH AFTER SUNSET BUT WILL REMAIN NEAR CRITICAL
THRESHOLDS UNTIL AROUND 0600 MDT. BREEZY CONDITIONS WILL RETURN
WEDNESDAY, THOUGH TO A FAR LESSER EXTENT. SOUTHWEST WINDS WILL
STRENGTHEN IN THE LATE MORNING, REACHING CRITICAL THRESHOLDS IN THE
AFTERNOON. GUSTS WILL TOP OUT AROUND 40 TO 45 MPH. MOISTURE WILL
BE IMPROVED, BUT NEAR-CRITICAL FIRE WEATHER CONDITIONS WILL STILL
EXIST DUE TO THE GUSTY WINDS. TRANSITION DAY EXPECTED THURSDAY
WITH LIGHTER WINDS AND NEAR-CRITICAL RH. CHANCES FOR RAIN/SNOW
SHOWERS WILL ENTER THE FORECAST FRIDAY/SATURDAY WITH THE POTENTIAL
FOR WETTING RAIN.
