DISCUSSION

ISSUED AT 340 AM CST FRI JAN 24 2025

OVER THE NEXT WEEK, WE'LL BE ON A ROLLER COASTER WITH OUR
TEMPERATURES. NORMAL HIGHS FOR THIS TIME OF THE YEAR ARE IN THE MID-
30S. NORMAL LOWS RANGE FROM AROUND 12 DEGREES TO THE MID-TEENS. THE
6-10 DAY TEMPERATURE OUTLOOK PUT OUT BY THE CLIMATE PREDICTION
CENTER (CPC) SHOWS SOUTH CENTRAL NEBRASKA AND NORTH CENTRAL KANSAS
EXPECTED TO HAVE A DECENT CHANCE OF ABOVE NORMAL TEMPERATURES.

STARTING OUT THIS MORNING, NORTHWEST FLOW IS IN PLACE OVER THE
REGION. MORNING LOWS ARE CURRENTLY FORECASTED TO BE IN THE SINGLE
DIGITS ABOVE ZERO TO THE MID-TEENS. TEMPERATURES ARE EXPECTED TO
WARM UP DURING THE MORNING, WITH FORECASTED HIGHS PRIMARILY IN THE
40S. A COLD FRONT WILL SLIDE INTO THE REGION FROM THE NORTHWEST THIS
AFTERNOON, SHIFTING WINDS FROM THE WEST-SOUTHWEST TO THE NORTHWEST.
DESPITE THE WARMER TEMPERATURES, WINDS GUSTING TO AROUND 15-25MPH
WILL MAKE MANY AREAS ACROSS NEBRASKA FEEL LIKE THEY ARE IN THE 30S.
LIMITED PACIFIC MOISTURE IS EXPECTED TO WORK ITS WAY INTO THE AREA,
WHICH ACCOMPANIED BY THE COLD FRONT, MAY BE ENOUGH TO GENERATE A FEW
SPRINKLES OR FLURRIES. WIDESPREAD ACCUMULATIONS ARE UNLIKELY.

SATURDAY WILL NOT BE PLEASANT, WITH HIGHS IN THE LOW TO MID-30S FOR
MUCH OF THE HASTINGS COUNTY WARNING AREA (CWA). WINDS GUSTING TO
AROUND 20-30MPH WILL MAKE TEMPERATURES FEEL LIKE THEY ARE IN THE
TEENS AND 20S.

HEADING INTO THE LATTER HALF OF THE WEEKEND, MODELS SHOW SPLIT FLOW.
THE NORTHERN SPLIT WILL COME OVER THE CENTRAL HIGH PLAIN AND THE
DAKOTAS. MODELS HAVE THE SOUTHERN SPLIT DEVELOPING A CLOSED UPPER
LOW OVER CENTRAL CALIFORNIA. THIS POTENTIAL SYSTEM WILL BE SOMETHING
TO KEEP AN EYE ON TOWARD THE LATTER PART OF THE FORECAST PERIOD.
TEMPERATURES WILL BE SLIGHTLY WARMER ON SUNDAY, WITH HIGHS IN THE
MID TO UPPER 30S FOR MOST AREAS.

MONDAY THROUGH WEDNESDAY, AN UPPER RIDGE DEVELOPS OVER THE PAC NW,
WITH WARMER AIR MOVING INTO THE MIDWEST. SPRINGLIKE TEMPERATURES
WILL BE EXPECTED EACH AFTERNOON, WITH HIGHS IN THE 40S AND 50S. LOWS
EACH MORNING WILL BE IN THE 20S. DRY WEATHER IS EXPECTED FROM MONDAY
THROUGH WEDNESDAY MORNING.

THERE IS A POSSIBILITY FOR A LATE WEEK OR WEEKEND STORM SYSTEM TO
IMPACT THE HIGH PLAINS AND GREAT PLAINS. MODELS ARE SHOWING A CLOSED
UPPER LOW MOVING FROM CALIFORNIA, THROUGH ARIZONA AND NEW MEXICO,
BEFORE LIFTING TO THE NORTHEAST. THIS SYSTEM IS STILL SEVERAL DAYS
OUT WITH CONSIDERABLE DISCREPANCIES IN THE TIMING, LOCATION AND
PATH. IT WOULD NOT SURPRISE ME IF THE TIMING OF THIS POTENTIAL
SYSTEM IS SLOWED DOWN OVER THE NEXT FEW DAYS.
