DISCUSSION

ISSUED AT 230 PM CST MON DEC 16 2024

A FAIRLY PROGRESSIVE WESTERLY FLOW REGIME THROUGH THE WEEK THOUGH
REMAINING DRY. THIS WILL PROVIDE FOR BRIEF COOLING ON WEDNESDAY
BEFORE ANOTHER MILD DAY ON THURSDAY, ONLY TO BE FOLLOWED BY A BIT
LONGER DURATION COOLDOWN FOR THE WEEKEND, THOUGH STILL CLOSE TO
SEASONAL CLIMO. THE NEXT UPPER TROF WAS MOVING ACROSS THE
NORTHWEST CONUS EARLY THIS AFTERNOON AND WILL MOVE QUICKLY OUT
ACROSS THE NORTHERN HIGH PLAINS BY TUESDAY AFTERNOON. SURFACE
RIDGE WILL SLIDE EASTWARD ACROSS THE AREA TONIGHT WITH SOUTHERLY
RETURN FLOW ON TUESDAY WITH SEASONABLY MILD HIGHS AGAIN THE
50S. WHILE REMAINING PROGRESSIVE, THE UPPER TROF WILL AMPLIFY A
BIT AS MOVES ACROSS THE LOWER PLAINS/MIDWEST TUESDAY NIGHT INTO
WEDNESDAY. THIS WILL SEND A MODESTLY COOLER AIRMASS SOUTH ACROSS
THE AREA WITH HIGHS BACK INTO THE 40S. ANOTHER PACIFIC UPPER
TROF WILL MOVE FROM THE NORTHWEST CONUS OVER THE NORTHERN
ROCKIES ON WEDNESDAY, THOUGH ON A BIT MORE NORTHERLY TRACK. THIS
TROF WILL ALSO AMPLIFY A BIT AS IT MOVES FROM THE NORTHERN
PLAINS/UPPER MIDWEST ACROSS THE GREAT LAKES/OHIO VALLEY
WEDNESDAY NIGHT THROUGH THURSDAY NIGHT. SO AFTER A REBOUND BACK
INTO THE 50S ON THURSDAY, A COLDER AIRMASS WILL ADVECT OVER THE
AREA AGAIN FOR FRIDAY. A SOMEWHAT MORE AMPLIFIED UPPER FLOW
REGIME WILL PREVAIL INTO THE START OF THE WEEKEND, AS A TRAILING
SHORTWAVE DIVES SOUTHEASTWARD ACROSS THE UPPER MIDWEST WHICH
WILL MAINTAIN THE EASTERN CONUS LONGWAVE AS AN UPPER RIDGE
MIGRATES OVER THE ROCKIES ON SATURDAY. THIS PATTERN WILL TEND TO
KEEP CENTRAL AND EASTERN SEASONABLY COOL THRU THE WEEKEND AND
UNFORTUNATELY REMAINING DRY.
