DISCUSSION

ISSUED AT 214 AM CST WED DEC 18 2024

A COLD FRONT HAS USHERED IN MORE SEASONABLE AIR ACROSS THE AREA
TODAY AND WE COULD SEE SOME STRATUS LINGER OVER PARTS OF SOUTHEAST
KANSAS, ESPECIALLY THROUGH THE MORNING HOURS. AFTERNOON HIGHS WILL
REMAIN NEAR CLIMATE NORMALS WITH HIGHS IN THE LOW TO MID 40S.

LOW LEVEL SOUTHERLY FLOW WILL RETURN TONIGHT INTO EARLY THURSDAY
ALLOWING TEMPERATURES TO MODERATE WITH HIGHS IN THE MID AND UPPER
50S ACROSS THE AREA ON THURSDAY. ANOTHER CLIPPER SYSTEM WILL DRIVE A
COLD FRONT SOUTH OVER THE AREA LATE IN THE PERIOD ON THURSDAY.
SEASONABLY COOL CONDITIONS ARE ANTICIPATED ON FRIDAY WITH HIGHS
STRUGGLING TO CLIMB OUT OF THE 30S FOR MANY AREAS.

SAT-SUN...RISING HEIGHTS AND INCREASING THICKNESS WILL SUPPORT
RISING TEMPERATURES OVER THE REGION THIS WEEKEND. SEASONABLE
TEMPERATURES ON EXPECTED ON SATURDAY WITH HIGHS IN THE LOW TO MID
40S. BY SUNDAY, MOST AREAS WILL SEE HIGHS AROUND 50 AS BREEZY
SOUTHERLY WINDS RETURN TO THE AREA.

MONDAY-TUESDAY...A SHORTWAVE TROUGH MOVING OVER THE CENTRAL CONUS
MAY BRING SOME INCREASE IN POPS FOR SOUTHEAST KS LATE MONDAY BUT
MUCH OF THE AREA IS EXPECTED TO REMAIN DRY. SEASONABLY MILD
TEMPERATURES ARE EXPECTED THROUGH THE PERIOD WITH HIGHS IN THE 50S
MON-TUE. A QUICK LOOK AHEAD TO CHRISTMAS DAY...MILD CONDITIONS ARE
EXPECTED TO PERSIST WITH HIGHS IN THE 50S/AROUND 60. AN APPROACHING
STORM SYSTEM MAY BRING SOME UNSETTLED WEATHER TO THE AREA LATE IN
THE PERIOD BUT CONFIDENCE IN THE TIMING REMAINS FAIRLY LOW AT THIS
TIME.

AVIATION /18Z TAFS THROUGH 18Z THURSDAY/

ISSUED AT 1134 AM CST WED DEC 18 2024

LOW MVFR TO HIGH IFR CLOUDS WILL GRADUALLY DISSIPATE FROM WEST
TO EAST THIS AFTERNOON ACROSS CENTRAL, SOUTH-CENTRAL, AND
SOUTHEAST KANSAS, AS HIGH PRESSURE BUILDS IN FROM THE NORTHWEST.
OTHERWISE, SOUTH-SOUTHWESTERLY LOW-LEVEL FLOW WILL BE ON THE
INCREASE OVERNIGHT, AS LOW PRESSURE DEEPENS OVER THE HIGH
PLAINS. A STRENGTHENING SOUTHWESTERLY LOW-LEVEL JET WILL SUPPORT
LOW-LEVEL WIND SHEAR WITHIN THE LOWEST 1500 FT AGL ACROSS
CENTRAL KANSAS OVERNIGHT. FURTHERMORE, THERE ARE SOME HINTS FOR
REDUCED VISIBILITIES IN FOG/BR FROM THE FLINT HILLS ON EAST
LATER TONIGHT INTO THURSDAY MORNING, BUT CONFIDENCE IS LOW SO
LEFT OUT OF THE 18Z ROUTINE TAFS.
