DISCUSSION

ISSUED AT 210 PM CST SAT JAN 18 2025

HIGH PRESSURE CONTINUES TO BUILD INTO THE REGION BEHIND THE COLD
FRONT THAT PASSED THROUGH THE AREA YESTERDAY. STOUT NORTH-
NORTHWESTERLY WINDS WILL CONTINUE INTO TONIGHT WITH WINDS BETWEEN 15-
20 MPH THIS AFTERNOON AND GUSTS TO 25-30 MPH. WINDS WILL DECREASE
SLIGHTLY OVERNIGHT AND DECREASE FURTHER ON SUNDAY AS THE PRESSURE
GRADIENT BEGINS TO RELAX. OVERNIGHT LOWS TONIGHT WILL TUMBLE INTO
THE SINGLE DIGITS ACROSS CENTRAL KS WITH TEMPERATURES INTO THE LOW
TEENS FOR SOUTH-CENTRAL AND SOUTHEASTERN KS. WITH HIGH PRESSURE
SOLIDLY OVERHEAD ON SUNDAY, SOME CLEARING IS EXPECTED, BUT HIGHS
WILL ONLY CLIMB INTO THE LOW 20S DURING THE AFTERNOON HOURS ACROSS
SOUTH-CENTRAL AND SOUTHEASTERN KS. AFTERNOON HIGHS IN THE UPPER
TEENS ARE EXPECTED ACROSS NORTHERN PORTIONS OF THE FORECAST AREA
WHERE SNOW PACK HAS BEEN MORE STUBBORN.

FOR MONDAY, SOME WEAK MID-LEVEL WARM AIR ADVECTION WILL PROVIDE
ENOUGH LIFT TO PRODUCE SOME LIGHT SNOWFALL FOR SOUTHWEST AND SOUTH-
CENTRAL KS. THE MAIN FEATURE LOOKS TO REMAIN WEST OF THE FORECAST
AREA, BUT SOME LIGHT SNOWFALL ACCUMULATIONS ARE POSSIBLE ACROSS THE
CENTRAL AND SOUTH-CENTRAL COUNTIES. THEN ON MONDAY NIGHT INTO
TUESDAY MORNING, THE COLDEST TEMPERATURES AND WIND CHILLS OF THIS
EVENT ARE EXPECTED. OVERNIGHT LOWS WILL FALL INTO THE NEGATIVE
SINGLE DIGITS TO THE NORTH WITH SINGLE DIGITS FURTHER SOUTH. WIND
CHILL VALUES WILL FALL BELOW ZERO DEGREES FOR MOST, WITH THOSE IN
NORTHERN COUNTIES SEEING WIND CHILLS APPROACHING -20 DEGREES.

BY MID NEXT WEEK, THE SURFACE HIGH PRESSURE WILL SHIFT TO OUR EAST
AHEAD OF THE NEXT QUICK SYSTEM. WINDS WILL TURN SOUTHERLY ON TUESDAY
AFTERNOON AND INTO WEDNESDAY. AFTERNOON HIGHS ON TUESDAY WILL REACH
INTO THE 20S WITH HIGHS IN THE 30 EXPECTED ON WEDNESDAY. THE NEXT
TROUGH WILL SWING THROUGH THE AREA ON WEDNESDAY NIGHT INTO THURSDAY
LIMITING OUR WARM-UP THROUGH THE END OF THE WEEK. LITTLE MOISTURE IS
ASSOCIATED WITH THIS SYSTEM, SO NO WINTER WEATHER CONCERNS AT THIS
TIME. BY THE END OF THE WEEK AND INTO THE WEEKEND, THE TROUGH LOOKS
TO SHIFT EAST ALLOWING RIDGING TO BUILD INTO OUR AREA FROM THE WEST.
WARMER TEMPERATURES ARE ON THIS HORIZON IF THIS PATTERN HOLDS!
