DISCUSSION

ISSUED AT 255 PM EST WED DEC 18 2024
KBYX RADAR HAS BEEN MOSTLY QUIET THIS AFTERNOON ASIDE FROM VERY
LIGHT SHALLOW SHOWERS IN THE DISTANT STRAITS OF FLORIDA. AS WE SIT
ON THE SOUTH SIDE OF THE RIDGE, A SLIGHT UPTICK IN MOISTURE WILL
BE USHERED IN TONIGHT HELPING IN THE PRODUCTION OF MORE LIGHT
SHALLOW SHOWERS. OVERNIGHT, DUE TO THE WARMER WATER TEMPERATURES
BEING SIMILAR TO THE DEW POINT VALUES, DENSE FOG COULD APPEAR IN
THE DEEP GULF WATERS REDUCING VISIBILITIES TO 1 MILE OR LESS.
WINDS ALONG THE REEF HAVE SLACKENED TO 5 TO 10 KNOTS.

LATE TOMORROW, A WEAK COLD FRONT IS EXPECTED TO MOVE THROUGH THE
KEYS AS AN UPPER-LEVEL TROUGH BECOMES NEGATIVELY TITLED ACROSS
FLORIDA. THE FRONT WILL RESULT IN FRESHENING NORTHERLY BREEZES
AND A DECREASE IN MOISTURE DRYING US OUT. RAIN CHANCES THEREAFTER
WILL DIMINISH. ON FRIDAY, A SECOND STRONGER RE-ENFORCING FRONT
WILL PUSH THROUGH DROPPING DEW POINTS TO THE LOWER 50S. AFTER A
PLEASANT, COOL WEEKEND, ANOTHER HIGH WILL BUILD BACK NEXT WEEK
SHIFTING FRESH BREEZES TO THE NORTHEAST TO EAST. MOISTURE WILL
RETURN NEXT WEEK ALLOWING FOR MORE SHALLOW QUICK MOVING SHOWERS.
NO MAJOR CHANGES WERE MADE TO THIS FORECAST PACKAGE BUT STAY TUNED
FOR POSSIBLE BREEZY CONDITIONS TO CONTINUE INTO CHRISTMAS.

MARINE

ISSUED AT 255 PM EST WED DEC 18 2024
A DENSE FOG ADVISORY IS IN EFFECT AFTER MIDNIGHT, FOR THE DEEP
GULF WATERS INCLUDING THE DRY TORTUGAS. NO OTHER WATCHES, WARNING,
OR ADVISORIES ARE IN EFFECT FOR THE FLORIDA KEYS. FROM SYNOPSIS,
HIGH PRESSURE OVER THE NORTH ATLANTIC WILL CONTINUE SLIDING
FARTHER EAST LOOSENING ITS GRIP ACROSS THE FLORIDA KEYS. BREEZES
WILL FURTHER SLACKEN TONIGHT AND THURSDAY BECOMING LIGHT TO GENTLE
AHEAD OF AN APPROACHING WEAK FRONT. THE WEAK FRONT IS ANTICIPATED
TO PRESS THROUGH THE KEYS SOMETIME LATE THURSDAY RESULTING IN
FRESHENING NORTHERLY BREEZES. A SECONDARY FRONT IS EXPECTED TO
PRESS THROUGH THE KEYS LATE FRIDAY REINFORCING THE PREVIOUS FRONT.

(18Z TAFS)
ISSUED AT 255 PM EST WED DEC 18 2024
VFR CONDITIONS WILL PREVAIL AT THE EYW AND MTH TERMINALS THROUGH
WEDNESDAY EVENING. WINDS WILL SLACKEN TO AROUND 5 KTS AND BECOME
MORE NORTHERLY OVERNIGHT. THIS, COMBINED WITH HIGHER DEWPOINTS,
MAY LEAD TO DEVELOPMENT OF FOG BY 06Z PERSISTING BEYOND SUNRISE ON
THURSDAY. THE CHANCE OF THIS OCCURRING IS HIGHER AT EYW, AND SO
HAVE INCLUDED MVFR CONDITIONS IN THIS TAF, BUT FOG IS ALSO
POSSIBLE AT MTH OVERNIGHT. IFR OR LIFR CONDITIONS ARE POSSIBLE
WITH DENSE FOG, BUT CONFIDENCE IN THIS IS LOWER FOR NOW.
