AREA FORECAST DISCUSSION

..NEW AVIATION

KEY MESSAGES

- COOLER TEMPERATURES FOR THE MIDDLE TO LATTER PART OF THE WEEK.

- SOME LOCATIONS COULD DROP NEAR/BELOW FREEZING ON WEDNESDAY
AND THURSDAY MORNING.

SHORT TERM

(THIS EVENING THROUGH WEDNESDAY)
ISSUED AT 137 PM CST TUE NOV 19 2024

A BENIGN BUT PLEASANT SHORT TERM FORECAST IS EXPECTED. THE ONE
FEATURE OF NOTE WILL BE THE COLD FRONT EXPECTED TO WORK ITS WAY
THROUGH THE AREA OVERNIGHT TONIGHT. AS A LARGE UPPER LOW CONTINUES
ITS TREK EAST ACROSS THE NORTHERN GREAT PLAINS AND INTO THE GREAT
LAKES REGION, A LONG EXTENDING COLD FRONT FROM THE CORRESPONDING
SURFACE LOW WILL DROP SOUTH INTO OUR AREA. THIS WON'T BE A
PARTICULARLY STRONG COLD FRONT BUT IT WILL USHER IN A SLIGHTLY
COLDER AND DRIER AIRMASS. LOW TEMPERATURES TONIGHT WILL FALL INTO
THE MID 30S TO LOW 40S FOR MOST LOCATIONS. WINDS WITH THE FRONT LOOK
TO KEEP US FROM REACHING IDEAL RADIATIONAL COOLING CONDITIONS BUT IF
THEY END UP BEING WEAKER THAN EXPECTED, WE COULD SEE SLIGHTLY COOLER
TEMPERATURES, ESPECIALLY IN LOW LYING AREAS, AS THE CLEAR SKIES AND
A DRY AIRMASS WILL PROMOTE SIGNIFICANT OVERNIGHT COOLING. A FEW
NOTORIOUS COLD SPOTS MAY APPROACH FREEZING BUT A HARD FREEZE IS
NOT EXPECTED OVERNIGHT. AS WE MOVE THROUGH THE DAY TOMORROW, THE
CENTER OF A SURFACE HIGH PRESSURE SYSTEM WILL MOVE OVERHEAD. THIS
WILL KEEP SKIES CLEAR AND WINDS LIGHT OVERALL. TEMPERATURES WILL
STAY SLIGHTLY BELOW NORMAL BUT SHOULD STILL WARM INTO THE LOW TO
MID 60S.

LONG TERM

(WEDNESDAY NIGHT THROUGH NEXT TUESDAY)
ISSUED AT 208 PM CST TUE NOV 19 2024

...BRIEF LIGHT FREEZE POSSIBLE IN LOW SPOTS AND COLD AIR DRAINAGE
AREAS FROM JUNCTION AND MASON TO BROWNWOOD AND SAN SABA THURSDAY
MORNING...

SURFACE HIGH PRESSURE WILL SETTLE DIRECTLY OVER THE HILL COUNTRY
AND AND SOUTHCENTRAL TEXAS THURSDAY MORNING. A FEW LOW LYING
AREAS, PARTICULARLY RIVER VALLEY DRAINAGE AREAS, MAY BRIEFLY DIP
TO THE FREEZING MARK FROM JUNCTION TO BRADY AND SAN SABA.

OTHERWISE THERE WILL BE WARMING TREND BACK TO HIGHS IN THE
MID/UPPER 60S BIG COUNTRY/LOWER 70S SOUTH FOR THURSDAY AND
FRIDAY. HIGHS THEN WARM TO THE LOWER 80S SUNDAY...AS STRONGER
SOUTHERLY WINDS DEVELOP THIS WEEKEND. THERE IS COOLING TREND NEXT
WEEK AS A COLD FRONT MOVES IN TUESDAY. BUT RECENT MODELS ARE NOT
AS COLD, WITH A PUSH OF THE COLDER AIR SOUTHEAST OF THE REGION. SO
PERHAPS, NO FREEZING TEMPERATURES NEXT WEEK, BUT IT IS A TOO
EARLY TO TELL.
