..NEW AVIATION

KEY MESSAGES

- TEMPERATURES WILL REMAIN BELOW NORMAL TODAY.

- MAINLY DRY WITH BELOW NORMAL HIGHS THROUGH WEDNESDAY, THEN
QUICKLY WARMING TO ABOVE NORMAL BY FRIDAY.

- STRONG COLD FRONT NEXT SATURDAY WILL START TO BRING MUCH COLDER
AIR INTO THE REGION, WITH VERY COLD TEMPERATURES LIKELY TO
CONTINUE THROUGH AT LEAST THE MIDDLE OF THE FOLLOWING WEEK.

SHORT TERM

(TODAY AND TONIGHT)
ISSUED AT 305 AM CST TUE JAN 14 2025

AFTER A COLD START THIS MORNING, TEMPERATURES WILL WARM INTO THE MID
TO UPPER 50S. SURFACE WINDS WILL REMAIN ON THE LIGHTER SIDE TODAY
AND TURN MORE TO THE SOUTHEAST THIS AFTERNOON, AS THE SURFACE HIGH
SITS TO OUR EAST. CLOUD COVER WILL START TO INCREASE OVERNIGHT, FROM
SOUTHEAST TO NORTHWEST, AS INCREASED MOISTURE IS BROUGHT INTO THE
AREA. THE INCREASED MOISTURE AND HIGHER DEWPOINTS WILL ALLOW
TEMPERATURES TO BE A BIT WARMER TOMORROW MORNING COMPARED TO THIS
MORNING. HOWEVER, LOWS WILL STILL HOVER RIGHT AROUND FREEZING FOR
MUCH OF THE AREA. WE COULD SEE AN ISOLATED LIGHT SHOWER IN OUR
SOUTHEASTERN COUNTIES OVERNIGHT, BUT MOST OF THE ACTIVITY SHOULD
REMAIN OFF TO OUR SOUTHEAST.

LONG TERM

(WEDNESDAY THROUGH MONDAY)
ISSUED AT 332 AM CST TUE JAN 14 2025

AN UPPER LEVEL TROUGH WILL MOVE EASTWARD THROUGH THE SOUTHERN
PLAINS, WITH A WEAK UPPER-LEVEL DISTURBANCE AND WEAK SURFACE COLD
FRONT TRACKING THROUGH THE AREA ON WEDNESDAY. THIS WILL
ESSENTIALLY BRING COOLER TEMPERATURES, INCREASED CLOUD COVER, AND
THE POTENTIAL FOR SOME LIGHT PRECIPITATION MAINLY ACROSS PARTS OF
THE NORTHWEST HILL COUNTRY. HIGH TEMPERATURES ON WEDNESDAY ARE
EXPECTED TO REACH INTO THE UPPER 40S TO MID 50S, WITH GENERALLY
LIGHT NORTHEASTERLY WINDS. ONCE THIS SYSTEM PASSES TO THE EAST,
UPPER-LEVEL RIDGING WILL BRIEFLY BUILD ACROSS THE AREA THURSDAY
INTO FRIDAY ALONG WITH INCREASED SOUTHERLY FLOW AT THE SURFACE,
RESULTING IN A BRIEF WARMING TREND THROUGH FRIDAY AFTERNOON. HIGH
TEMPERATURES ON THURSDAY ARE EXPECTED IN THE UPPER 50S TO MID 60S,
AND IN THE UPPER 60S TO LOWER 70S BY FRIDAY.

A BROAD AND DEEP TROUGH WILL DIG INTO THE TEXAS PANHANDLE AND WEST
CENTRAL TEXAS LATE ON FRIDAY INTO SATURDAY, BRINGING GUSTY WINDS
WITH THE FRONTAL PASSAGE ON FRIDAY AFTERNOON AND EVENING AND
ANOTHER ROUND OF COLD TEMPERATURES TO THE AREA FOR THIS WEEKEND
AND INTO EARLY PART OF NEXT WEEK. THE CURRENT FORECAST HIGHS
RANGE FROM THE LOWER 30S NORTH OF I-20 TO NEAR 40 ALONG THE I-10
CORRIDOR, BUT IT'S POSSIBLE THAT MUCH OF THE AREA MAY STAY BELOW
FREEZING. THE FORECAST LOOKS MAINLY DRY AT THIS POINT, BUT WE WILL
BE KEEPING A CLOSE EYE ON PRECIPITATION POTENTIAL CONSIDERING HOW
COLD IT WILL BE.
