FURTHER THAN ANY OTHER RECENT WAVE, SUCH THAT IT IS A SURPRISE  
TO THE CASUAL OBSERVER. RIP CURRENTS ARE POWERFUL, NARROW CHANNELS  
OF FAST-MOVING WATER IN THE SURF ZONE, FLOWING OUTWARD FROM SHORE.
