OVERVIEW
 
 
STRONG THUNDERSTORMS DEVELOPED WITHIN A MODERATE SHEAR ENVIRONMENT  
ACROSS PORTIONS OF OTERO COUNTY NM DURING THE AFTERNOON HOURS OF  
JUNE 4, 2019. ONE SUCH STORM, LOCATED JUST WEST OF ALAMOGORDO, WAS  
ASSOCIATED WITH WHAT APPEARED TO BE A SUBSTANTIAL 60+ KNOT REAR  
INFLOW JET THAT DESCENDED UPON THE TOWN OF ALAMOGORDO WITH 60+ MPH  
WINDS PRODUCING STRAIGHT LINE WIND DAMAGE THROUGHOUT PORTIONS OF  
THE CITY, INCLUDING SIGNIFICANT TREE DAMAGE AT THE LOCAL ZOO.  
 
A LOCAL SPIN-UP, OR WHAT WOULD BE CLASSIFIED AS A GUSTNADO, OCCURRED  
AT THE LEADING EDGE OF THE OUTFLOW BOUNDARY JUST NORTH OF  
ALAMOGORDO IN THE VICINITY OF RUBY LANE AT ROUGHLY 04:50 PM MDT.  
AT THE SAME TIME A SIGNIFICANT UPDRAFT AND ASSOCIATED CB WAS NOTED  
JUST NORTH OF THIS LOCATION. THE CIRCULATION ASSOCIATED WITH THE  
SPIN-UP WAS QUICKLY ABSORBED WITHIN THE UPDRAFT VICINITY,  
RESULTING IN A SHORT LIVED LANDSPOUT TYPE TORNADO.

SURVEY SUMMARY:  
THE TORNADO REMAINED CONFINED TO A RELATIVELY SMALL AREA OF  
APPROXIMATELY5 ACRES ALONG AND JUST SOUTH OF RUBY LANE. THIS  
TORNADO WAS SHORT LIVED, PRODUCING DAMAGE ALONG ITS PATH FOR ONLY  
ABOUT 3 MINUTES. IN TOTAL 1 MOBILE HOME WAS COMPLETELY DESTROYED  
WITH 3 OTHER RESIDENCES RECEIVING MODERATE DAMAGE DUE MAINLY TO  
FLYING DEBRIS. SEVERAL OUT BUILDINGS INCLUDING SHEDS AND BARNS  
WERE EITHER COMPLETELY DESTROYED OR HEAVILY DAMAGED. ONE OUT  
BUILDING WAS SHIFTED OFF ITS FOUNDATION AND MOVED APPROXIMATELY  
9 FEET TO THE NORTH. A METAL SILO USED FOR STORAGE WAS LIFTED OFF  
ITS FOUNDATION AND TRAVELLED AIRBORNE FOR APPROXIMATELY 400  
FEET BEFORE STRIKING ONE OF THE RESIDENTIAL STRUCTURES. ONE MINOR  
INJURY WAS REPORTED TO THE RESIDENT OF THE DESTROYED MOBILE HOME.
