..NWS DAMAGE SURVEY SUMMARY FOR JUNE 14TH, 2026 TORNADO EVENT  
 
   
OVERVIEW  
 
AS OF THIS WRITING, A TOTAL OF THREE TORNADOES HAVE BEEN  
CONFIRMED TO HAVE OCCURRED DURING THE LATE AFTERNOON OF  
JUNE 14TH. TWO OF THESE TORNADOES OCCURRED AS MESOVORTICES  
EMBEDDED IN A LARGER SQUALL LINE WITH ANOTHER FROM A DISCRETE  
SUPERCELL. ADDITIONAL SURVEYS AND SURVEY RESULTS ARE PENDING  
FURTHER EVALUATION AND WILL BE UPDATED AS SOON AS POSSIBLE.

WITH THE GUIDANCE OF JEFFERSON COUNTY EMA, TODAY A SURVEY TEAM  
FROM NWS PITTSBURGH EVALUATED DAMAGE FROM SUNDAY'S STORMS IN  
JEFFERSON COUNTY, PA. THE TEAM HAS CONFIRMED THAT THE DAMAGE  
OBSERVED WAS THE RESULT OF A TORNADO.  
 
DAMAGE WAS FIRST SEEN IN A WOODED AREA BOUNDED BY NICKLES ROAD  
AND LONDON ROAD, MAINLY IN THE FORM OF SPORADIC SNAPPED LIMBS.  
AS THE STORM EMERGED FROM THE WOODED AREA, IT SNAPPED SOFTWOOD  
TREES AT A FARMSTEAD NEAR BURNS AND ANITA-OLIVEBURG ROAD. THE  
TORNADO WEAKENED BRIEFLY AS IT PROGRESSED EASTWARD, WITH  
INTERMITTENT DAMAGE TO LIMBS ALONG ANITA-OLIVEBURG ROAD, INCLUDING  
ONE ON A SHED. AFTER CROSSING TO KNOX DALE ROAD, THE TORNADIC  
CIRCULATION STRENGTHENED AND GREW IN SIZE, AND DAMAGE BECAME  
CONSIDERABLY MORE CONSISTENT AND NOTABLE. BEGINNING HERE AND  
CONTINUING NORTHEAST TOWARD ROUTE 310, LARGE SWATHS OF HEALTHY  
AND STURDY HARDWOOD AND SOFTWOOD TREES WERE SNAPPED AND UPROOTED,  
MOST NOTABLY NEAR TEAM ROAD AND ALONG AN ADJACENT HILLSIDE. ON THIS  
HILLSIDE WAS THE MOST SIGNIFICANT DAMAGE, WHERE ALMOST NO TREE WAS  
LEFT INTACT. WIND SPEED HERE WAS ESTIMATED TO BE AT LEAST 110 MPH,  
AT THE HIGH END OF THE EF1 SCALE. AFTER DESCENDING THE HILL TO A  
NEIGHBORHOOD NORTH OF ANITA, THE CIRCULATION WEAKENED ONLY SLIGHTLY,  
AND DAMAGE CONTINUED, CONSISTING OF SNAPPED AND UPROOTED TREES ALONG  
ROUTE 310. ALSO IN THIS AREA, A HOME LOST ITS CARPORT AND SUFFERED  
LIGHT DAMAGE TO SIDING AND ROOF MATERIAL. HERE WIND WAS MOST CONSISTENT  
WITH 90-100 MPH SPEED. NO DAMAGE WAS MADE AVAILABLE TO THE SURVEY TEAM  
BEYOND THIS LOCATION, AND IT WOULD APPEAR THE TORNADO WEAKENED RAPIDLY  
AFTER THIS POINT. THERE WERE SEVERAL INACCESSIBLE DAMAGE SWATHS THAT  
WILL BENEFIT FROM AN AERIAL SURVEY, THE RESULT OF WHICH IS ANTICIPATED  
TO BE PROVIDED BY JEFFERSON COUNTY EMA LATER THIS WEEK. OBSERVED DAMAGE  
IS CONSISTENT WITH A HIGH-END EF1 WIND SPEED (MAX WIND 110 MPH), WHICH  
WILL BE REEVALUATED UPON REVIEW OF ANY AERIAL SURVEY THAT CAN BE OBTAINED  
OF THE INACCESSIBLE LOCATIONS. NO TORNADIC DAMAGE WAS REPORTED ELSEWHERE.  
ADDITIONAL EXTENSIVE SEARCHES FOR DAMAGE WERE CONDUCTED IN THE RINGGOLD AREA  
NEAR CORSICA, TO NO AVAIL.  
 
DETAILS OF THE PATH LENGTH AND WIDTH WILL BE FINALIZED ON TUESDAY AFTER  
QUALITY CONTROL OF DAMAGE POINTS IS UNDERTAKEN.  
 
THIS IS THE FIRST TORNADO RECORDED IN JEFFERSON COUNTY, PA SINCE OCTOBER 2021.  
NWS PITTSBURGH IS GRATEFUL FOR THE ASSISTANCE OF JEFFERSON COUNTY EMA, LOCAL  
TOWNSHIP FIRE DEPARTMENT PERSONNEL, AND THE PUBLIC FOR THEIR DAMAGE REPORTS  
THAT FACILITATED THE COMPLETION OF THIS SURVEY.
