KEY MESSAGES

- HAZARDOUS TRAVEL CONDITIONS WILL MATERIALIZE TONIGHT DUE TO
BLACK ICE AND THE DEVELOPMENT OF FREEZING FOG. A LIGHT COATING
OF ICE WILL MAKE FOR SLICK ROADS THROUGH TOMORROW MORNING.

- LOW TEMPERATURES WILL DROP INTO THE TEENS AND LOW 20S TONIGHT. A
LIGHT BREEZE WILL ADD AN ADDITIONAL CHILL TO THE AIR, MAKING IT
FEEL CLOSER TO 8-15 DEGREES ACROSS NORTH TEXAS.

- A GRADUAL WARMING TREND COMMENCES THIS WEEKEND WITH SLIGHTLY
ABOVE NORMAL TEMPERATURES BY THE END OF NEXT WEEK.

SHORT TERM

/NEW/
/THROUGH TOMORROW NIGHT/

A COLD NIGHT IS AHEAD FOR ALL OF NORTH AND CENTRAL TEXAS WITH
TEMPERATURES IN THE TEENS TO LOWER 20S. WIND CHILLS WILL BE IN THE
LOWER TEENS WITH A FEW ISOLATED SPOTS IN THE UPPER SINGLE DIGITS.
IN ADDITION TO THE COLD TEMPERATURES, THE POTENTIAL FOR FOG TO
DEVELOP OVERNIGHT HAS INCREASED, ESPECIALLY ALONG AND NORTH OF
I-20. GIVEN TEMPERATURES WILL BE WELL BELOW FREEZING, ANY FOG THAT
DEVELOPS WILL QUICKLY FREEZE UPON CONTACT. A THIN LAYER OF ICE MAY
FORM ON ANY EXPOSED SURFACE GIVEN THE EXPECTED TEMPERATURES IN THE
TEENS AND 20S.

IN ADDITION TO THE FREEZING FOG, ANY WATER ON THE ROAD DUE TO THE
RECENT RAIN/SNOW WILL REFREEZE. THERE IS A HIGH POTENTIAL FOR
BLACK ICE ACROSS THE ENTIRE REGION AS SOME LOCATIONS NEVER
EXPERIENCED DIRECT SUNLIGHT TO HELP EVAPORATE/SUBLIMATE THE
MOISTURE.

TRAVEL IMPACTS DUE TO THE COMBINATION OF BLACK ICE AND FREEZING
FOG WILL BEGIN TO IMPROVE LATE TOMORROW AFTERNOON AS TEMPERATURES
RISE ABOVE FREEZING. HIGHS TOMORROW WILL BE IN THE LOWER TO MID
40S ACROSS NORTH TEXAS WHERE SNOW REMAINS ON THE GROUND. THOSE
ACROSS CENTRAL TEXAS WILL SEE TEMPERATURES IN THE LOWER TO MID 50S
WITH SOUTHERLY WINDS BETWEEN 10-15 MPH.

TOMORROW NIGHT WILL BE COLD, BUT NOT AS COLD AS TONIGHT WITH
TEMPERATURES IN THE UPPER 20S TO LOWER 30S. WIND CHILLS WILL BE IN
THE 20S THROUGHOUT THE REGION WITH CLEAR SKIES CONTINUING.

LONG TERM

/ISSUED 200 PM CST FRI JAN 10 2025/
/SATURDAY NIGHT THROUGH FRIDAY/

MUCH QUIETER WEATHER IS EXPECTED THE REMAINDER OF THE WEEKEND
THROUGH EARLY NEXT WEEK WITH DRY, ZONAL FLOW ALOFT. TEMPERATURES
WILL REMAIN BELOW SEASONAL NORMALS THANKS TO THE ARRIVAL OF
ANOTHER COLD FRONT SATURDAY NIGHT/SUNDAY. THIS FRONT WILL COME
THROUGH DRY BUT WILL KEEP DAYTIME HIGHS SUNDAY AND MONDAY IN THE
40S AND LOWER 50S. OVERNIGHT LOWS WILL FALL TO OR BELOW FREEZING
WITH COLDEST TEMPERATURES NEAR THE RED RIVER.

TEMPERATURES WILL GRADUALLY INCREASE TUESDAY THROUGH FRIDAY WITH
WEAK RETURN FLOW AND A EVEN SUBTLE RIDGING ALOFT TOWARDS THE END
OF THE WEEK. HIGHS TUESDAY THROUGH THURSDAY WILL BE GENERALLY IN
THE 50S WITH LOWS FROM THE UPPER 20S TO THE MID 30S. HIGHS IN THE
60S WILL RETURN BY FRIDAY ALONG WITH A LOW CHANCE FOR WARM AIR
ADVECTION SHOWERS ACROSS THE EAST.

/NEW/
/00Z TAFS/

NORTHERLY WINDS HAVE SUBSIDED, NOW RANGING BETWEEN 7-9 KNOTS AT
ALL TAF SITES.

AS WE GO THROUGH THE EVENING, WINDS WILL CONTINUE TO DIMINISH,
BECOMING SOUTHWESTERLY AFTER MIDNIGHT. THE DIMINISHING OF THE
WINDS WILL SET THE STAGE FOR FOG TO DEVELOP ACROSS PORTIONS OF THE
AREA, ESPECIALLY IN NORTH TEXAS WHERE SNOW REMAINS ON THE GROUND.
GIVEN TEMPERATURES WILL BE WELL BELOW FREEZING, THE FOG DROPLETS
WILL QUICKLY FREEZE UPON CONTACT.

THE FREEZING FOG WILL CONTINUE BEYOND SUNRISE BEFORE DISSIPATING
CLOSER TO 15Z TOMORROW. TEMPERATURES WILL RISE ABOVE FREEZING
AROUND 15Z AT KACT AND CLOSER TO 18Z AT ALL NORTH TEXAS TAF SITES.

ONCE THE FOG DISSIPATES, CLEAR SKIES WILL PREVAIL THROUGH THE REST
OF THE DAY WITH SOUTHERLY WINDS AROUND 10 KNOTS.
