TEMPERATURES ARE EXPECTED BEHIND THE FRONT THROUGH THE FIRST
HALF OF THE WORK WEEK.

- A GRADUAL WARMING TREND WILL BEGIN TUESDAY. ABOVE NORMAL
TEMPERATURES ARE EXPECTED WEDNESDAY AND THURSDAY.

- LOW RAIN CHANCES WILL RETURN TO THE REGION ON FRIDAY. AN ARCTIC

SHORT TERM
/ISSUED 1038 AM CST SUN JAN 12 2025/
/THIS AFTERNOON THROUGH MONDAY/

A REINFORCEMENT OF COOL AND DRY AIR WILL WORK ITS WAY THROUGH THE
ENTIRE REGION THIS AFTERNOON BEHIND A WEAK COLD FRONT. FULL SUN
WILL OFFSET WEAK COLD AIR ADVECTION, ALLOWING TEMPERATURES TO WARM
INTO THE 50S FOR MOST. THE ONLY EXCEPTION WILL BE ACROSS ABOUT
THE NORTHERN TWO ROWS OF COUNTIES WHERE MIDDLE AND UPPER 40S WILL
BE MORE COMMON. TEMPERATURES TONIGHT WILL FALL BELOW FREEZING
ACROSS ALL BUT THE SOUTHEAST ZONES. A BREEZY NORTH WIND WILL
CREATE WIND CHILLS IN THE TEENS AND TWENTIES WHICH WILL MAKE FOR A
CHILLY START TO THE WORK WEEK IN THE PRE-DAWN HOURS MONDAY.

SURFACE HIGH PRESSURE WILL SLIDE INTO THE CENTRAL AND SOUTHERN
PLAINS MONDAY. THE WEAKENING SURFACE PRESSURE GRADIENT WILL RESULT
IN LIGHTER WINDS THROUGH THE AFTERNOON. LINGERING COLD AIR
ADVECTION WILL KEEP COOL TEMPERATURES WITH HIGHS STRUGGLING TO GET
OUT OF THE 40 MONDAY AFTERNOON.

LONG TERM
/NEW/
/MONDAY NIGHT ONWARD/

TEMPERATURES WILL BEGIN TO MODERATE ON TUESDAY AS SOUTHERLY WINDS
RETURN. A WARMING TREND IS EXPECTED THROUGH THE END OF THE WEEK,
WITH HIGH TEMPERATURES LARGELY RETURNING TO THE 60S ON THURSDAY.
FRIDAY WILL BE THE WARMEST DAY WITH SOME LOCATIONS WARMING INTO
THE LOW 70S. WE'LL CONTINUE TO SEE COOL MORNINGS EACH DAY AS
MOISTURE REMAINS SCOURED BEHIND SUNDAY'S COLD FRONT. SUB-FREEZING
TEMPERATURES ARE EXPECTED FOR MOST LOCATIONS MONDAY NIGHT AND
TUESDAY NIGHT, BUT WILL BECOME LESS COMMON BY WEDNESDAY NIGHT.

LOW LEVEL WINDS WILL STRENGTHEN ON FRIDAY AS A POWERFUL SYSTEM
DIVES INTO THE SOUTHERN PLAINS. RAIN CHANCES WILL RETURN AHEAD OF
A STRONG COLD FRONT ON FRIDAY, WITH THE FRONT EXPECTED TO ARRIVE
EARLY NEXT WEEKEND. THERE IS HIGH CONFIDENCE THAT ANOTHER BLAST OF
ARCTIC AIR WILL ARRIVE BEHIND THE FRONT, ALLOWING MUCH COLDER
TEMPERATURES TO RETURN TO THE REGION. THERE ARE SOME INDICATIONS
THAT WE MAY HAVE PRECIPITATION CHANCES BEHIND THIS FRONT, BUT
LOCATION, TIMING, AND WHETHER THIS WILL ENTAIL ANOTHER CHANCE FOR
WINTRY PRECIPITATION ARE ALL UP IN THE AIR AT THIS TIME. ENSURE
YOU MONITOR THE FORECAST FOR THE LATEST INFORMATION THROUGHOUT THE
WEEK.
