KEY MESSAGES

- A GRADUAL WARMING TREND WILL OCCUR THROUGH THE WORKWEEK WITH
ABOVE NORMAL TEMPERATURES RETURNING BY THURSDAY.

- LOW RAIN CHANCES WILL RETURN TO THE REGION ON FRIDAY. AN ARCTIC
AIRMASS IS EXPECTED TO ARRIVE NEXT WEEKEND, WITH MUCH COLDER
TEMPERATURES THROUGH AT LEAST THE MIDDLE PART OF THE FOLLOWING
WEEK.

SHORT TERM
/NEW/
/THROUGH TUESDAY/

SURFACE HIGH PRESSURE WILL REMAIN ANCHORED ACROSS THE CENTRAL
PLAINS AND MIDWEST FOR THE EARLY PORTION OF THE WORKWEEK, WHILE
POSITIVE-TILT LONGWAVE TROUGHING PREVAILS ALOFT. THIS WILL
MAINTAIN BENIGN WEATHER FOR US LOCALLY WITH A GRADUAL MODERATION
OF TEMPERATURES TODAY AND TOMORROW. EXPECT TEMPERATURES NEAR OR
SLIGHTLY BELOW NORMAL WITH HIGHS IN UPPER 40S AND LOWER 50S AND
LOWS IN THE UPPER 20S AND 30S. A SMALL INCREASE IN MID CLOUD COVER
WILL ACCOMPANY A SHORTWAVE OVERHEAD ON TUESDAY, BUT THIS
DISTURBANCE WILL BE DEVOID OF PRECIPITATION AS MOISTURE REMAINS
SCOURED TO THE GULF. THIS WILL HOWEVER ACT TO TURN OUR LOW-LEVEL
WIND FIELDS BACK TO SOUTHERLY FOR TUESDAY FOLLOWING A PERIOD OF
NORTH WINDS TO BEGIN THE WORKWEEK.

LONG TERM
/ISSUED 114 PM CST SUN JAN 12 2025/
/MONDAY NIGHT ONWARD/

TEMPERATURES WILL BEGIN TO MODERATE ON TUESDAY AS SOUTHERLY WINDS
RETURN. A WARMING TREND IS EXPECTED THROUGH THE END OF THE WEEK,
WITH HIGH TEMPERATURES LARGELY RETURNING TO THE 60S ON THURSDAY.
FRIDAY WILL BE THE WARMEST DAY WITH SOME LOCATIONS WARMING INTO
THE LOW 70S. WE'LL CONTINUE TO SEE COOL MORNINGS EACH DAY AS
MOISTURE REMAINS SCOURED BEHIND SUNDAY'S COLD FRONT. SUB-FREEZING
TEMPERATURES ARE EXPECTED FOR MOST LOCATIONS MONDAY NIGHT AND
TUESDAY NIGHT, BUT WILL BECOME LESS COMMON BY WEDNESDAY NIGHT.

LOW LEVEL WINDS WILL STRENGTHEN ON FRIDAY AS A POWERFUL SYSTEM
DIVES INTO THE SOUTHERN PLAINS. RAIN CHANCES WILL RETURN AHEAD OF
A STRONG COLD FRONT ON FRIDAY, WITH THE FRONT EXPECTED TO ARRIVE
EARLY NEXT WEEKEND. THERE IS HIGH CONFIDENCE THAT ANOTHER BLAST OF
ARCTIC AIR WILL ARRIVE BEHIND THE FRONT, ALLOWING MUCH COLDER
TEMPERATURES TO RETURN TO THE REGION. THERE ARE SOME INDICATIONS
THAT WE MAY HAVE PRECIPITATION CHANCES BEHIND THIS FRONT, BUT
LOCATION, TIMING, AND WHETHER THIS WILL ENTAIL ANOTHER CHANCE FOR
WINTRY PRECIPITATION ARE ALL UP IN THE AIR AT THIS TIME. ENSURE
YOU MONITOR THE FORECAST FOR THE LATEST INFORMATION THROUGHOUT THE
WEEK.

AVIATION
/NEW/
/06Z TAFS/

VFR WILL PREVAIL THROUGH THE PERIOD. A NORTH/NORTHEAST WIND AROUND
10 KTS WILL CONTINUE TODAY BEFORE WINDS BECOME LIGHT AND VARIABLE
THIS EVENING. THERE SHOULD BE AN INCREASE IN MID CLOUD COVER NEAR
8-10 KFT ACROSS PARTS OF NORTH TEXAS OVERNIGHT INTO TUESDAY, WITH
WINDS RETURNING TO SOUTHEASTERLY AROUND THE VERY END OF THE VALID
TAF PERIOD.
